August 2, 1999 - Peak One Campground - Rest Day

DISTANCE TRAVELED: 0.00 Miles
AVERAGE SPEED: 0.00 MPH

Today was another so called “rest day.” I got up at 7:30 and had French toast for breakfast. As soon as I was done, Scott, Mike, and I rode into town to do laundry. While we washed out clothes, we walked around the town of Frisco. Tom was having a new wheel made since his old rim cracked. When we were done with the wash, I put Scott's BOB onto my bike and rode back to the campground while he went with Mike to Breckenridge. At camp, I ate lunch and then rode 9 miles into Silverthorne where I looked at some bike frames and then stopped in at the Dairy Queen for a vanilla cone dipped in chocolate. Shortly, I was on my way back to Frisco. After 18 miles of riding, I averaged 16.5 mph. This included headwinds, uphills, switchbacks, and being on a mountain bike! When I got back, Lou was the only person in camp so I took some time to ride 3 miles of single track behind the campground. I came back, fixed my bike, got bored again, and rode another 6 miles. The trails were great with some good tight switchbacks and good tight lines. After riding, I got back and ate KFC that Al had bought for dinner. After eating, I rode to the nearest phone and made a few phone calls. By the time I got back to the campsite, I had ridden 31 miles for the day! I think this is a record for a rest day! Before going to bed, I had some hot chocolate. There was not enough to fill up my cup so I had half hot chocolate and half coffee. The mix was much better than either alone. I soon went to my tent and went to sleep at 9:30
