     Bad weather again hampered 10th Air Force operations during August. The road bridge at Shweli was damaged by B-25s on the 1st. On the 16th bombers claimed 2 small vessels in the Andaman Sea about 130 miles south of Rangoon, and on the 23rd B-25s flew a low level strike against the Myitnge bridge, knocking out a center span.

The 89th Fighter Squadron, 80th Fighter Group, transferred from Karachi to Gushkara, India with P-40's on the 16th.

On the 19th Brigadier General Howard C. Davidson became Commanding General, Tenth Air Force.

Army Air Forces, India-Burma Sector, China-Burma-India Theater was activated under the command of General George E. Stratemeyer on the 20th. This command included the Tenth Air Force, China-Burma-India Air Service Command (Provisional), China-Burma-India Training Unit (Provisional) and several lesser units.

Also on the 20th, X Air Force Service Command (AFSC) personnel and organizations were absorbed by CBI ASC (Prov), Brigadier General Robert C Oliver, Commanding General X AFSC, became Commanding General CBI ASC (Prov).

Admiral Louis F. Mountbatten was appointed Supreme Allied Commander, Southeast Asia on the 25th.
