In English, it is not necessary to use an article before
nouns such as water, energy, or patience; however, French
requires this. The partitive articles are:
du (de + le); (de l' before a vowel) masculine singular
de la; (de l' before a vowel) feminine singular
des (de +les) masculine and feminine plural |

The 24-hour clock is used
extensively in mainland Europe, so, if a French speaker
says sept / huit / neuf / dix / onze heures, he or she
usually means 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., etc.
Quelle heure est-il? = What's the time?
Il est deux heures. = It's 2 o'clock.
