Hi Kids,
Did you know? The term philately was coined by a Frenchman, Georges Herpinis from Greek "philos" meaning "love" and "ateleia" meaning "that which is tax-free". The postage stamp came free of charge to the recipient rendering it untaxed. The idea of postage stamp was first suggested by a school teacher and civil servant Rowland Hill in 1837 and adapted in 1840. He got this idea from similar labels issued in many parts of Europe to collect tax on newspaper. Philately is lots of fun. Each Indian Stamp has a story to tell.
