It was warm, and everyone was excited. Alonndo tried to stay calm, and once the eggs started rocking, Alonndo's heart began beating several dragonlengths a minute. Would this be his day? Would his mind link forever with that of a dragonet? He could hardly stand still.
A bronze... a green... a brown...
Alonndo watched with wide eyes as one after another hatched, and bonded, and with every one, he worried more.
Three blues...
Alonndo looked up to the stands, spotting his parents. A nice surprise that they'd come all the from Ryslen.
A beautiful green...
Alonndo looked on as a bronze hatchling broke from his shell, and made his way, wobbling, to a boy, Darell. He looked up at the lad, and then walked right over him, oblivious to the injury he caused. The other lads scattered, so the hatchling wouldn't harm them as well. Alonndo thought to himself, What a horrid thing to do! That boy will be down for weeks!. The bronze came to a stop in front of him, looking up at him remorsefully.
I didn't mean to! He wouldn't move! the bronze said, and in that instant, Alonndo was so touched, he couldn't help but smile.
"It's alright, Alivirth." Alonndo said, gathering up his lifemate, and taking him out to get his first meal. How wonderful it felt!
After the meat, Alivirth ate like there was no tomorrow.
"Slow down, Alivirth!" his Impressor said. "You have to chew it."
Why? the hatchling bronze said, snacking away. It's good like this.
"If you swallow too big of a piece, you'll choke." the new rider said.
Just then, his parents A'lik and Onda came up to him, to congratulate him on his big day. "What are you going to call yourself now, son?" the brownrider asked, and his bluerider mother knelt to scratch little Alivirth's eyeridges.
"A'ndo." He said, and his parents nodded their approval. "How come Drikara and Leyken didn't come?"
A'lik and Onda looked at each other, and everywhere else but at A'ndo. "They're... busy today." His mother finally said.
"That is very odd," A'ndo said. "I thought they'd..."
Alivirth cut him off, speaking Who are Drikara and Leyken? Can I meet them?
"Yes, it is. Very odd indeed." Onda said, standing. "We've got to get back to Ryslen. I'm sure Drikara and Leyken will come see you as soon as they can."
Onda and A'lik left shortly after, their pair of dragons winging their way high into the sky before they went Between.
Can I? Alivirth asked again, butting his head against A'ndo's leg.
"You can meet Drikara and Leyken, Alivirth, but I don't know when." A'ndo said, still happy that Alivirth was his, though this odd development made him wonder.
