Islanders 3, Flyers 1

(4/14) In a matchup that had no effect on the Flyers' postseason fate, the Flyers lost 1-3 to the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. Ruslan Fedotenko opened the scoring with the Flyers lone tally in the first period. The Flyers will face the Senators in the first round of the NHL playoffs.

Flyers name team award winners

(4/13) The Flyers presented their annual team awards at the regular season home finale against the Rangers. Bob Clarke's off-season acquisitions were well-honored in the ceremony. Jeremy Roenick won the Bobby Clarke Trophy (Team MVP as voted by his teammates) and the Yanick Dupre Memorial Class Guy Award (voted by local hockey writers for rapport with the media), and Kim Johnsson won the Barry Ashbee Award as the team's best defenseman. Justin Williams won the Pelle Lindbergh Memorial Trophy as the team's most improved player.

Flyers 2, Rangers 1

(4/13) The Flyers beat the Rangers to win their second Atlantic Division title in three years. Mark Recchi and Adam Oates, who are heating up at just the right time, scored for the Flyers. The Rangers scored shorthanded late in the third period to make the game close. Cechmanek had another so-so outing. He only allowed one goal, but he didn't face much rubber and his failure to contain a rebound let to the Nedved goal.

Devils 1, Flyers 0

(4/10) The Flyers continue to have trouble scoring. During a nationally televised game, the Devils scored late in the third period to forge a 1-0 victory over the Flyers. Roman Cechmanek got the start and the loss. While he did only allow the one goal, he looked a bit shaky and out of position at times.

Flyers 4, Panthers 4 (OT)

(4/8) The Flyers wasted a golden opportunity to gain ground on the conference leading Bruins today in Philadelphia against the Florida Panthers. The Panthers' Pierre Dagenais scored with 16.6 seconds remaining to force the tie. Simon Gagne had scored late in the third period to give the Flyers a 4-3 lead. The other Flyers goals were scored by John LeClair, Mark Recchi, and Kim Johnsson. Johnsson's goal snapped a major scoring drought, while LeClair and Recchi's struggles in the second half have been well documents. Those were the good points. The bad points? A lost point, and a shaky outing by Roman Cechmanek. Do we have another goaltending controversy in Philadelphia?

The Flyers can clinch the Atlantic Division title with two points. If things get close, it's worth noting that the Flyers play the Islanders on the last day of the season. The Bruins now have a three point lead over the Flyers with three games to play.

Lefebvre, Slaney called up; Tibbetts waived

(4/8) The Flyers called up prospect Guillaume Lefebvre (for the second time this season) and veteran minor leaguer John Slaney to fill holes in their lineup. Slaney replaces the injured Eric Desjardins and Chris McAllister, while Lefebvre takes Billy Tibbetts's place in the lineup. Tibbetts, who is not injured, was waived to make room for Lefebvre, which suggests that Tibbetts may have used up his second change in Philadelphia. On a side note, some observers (including myself) were initially surprised that the Flyers chose to call up Slaney rather than top defensive prospect Bruno St. Jacques. It turns out that St. Jacques is nursing a hamstring injury, and there also seems to be a feeling around the organization that a late-season playoff run is no place for a rookie defenseman.

Flyers 3, Penguins 1

(4/6) The Flyers finally managed to win again, as they held on to a solid 3-1 victory over the Penguins. The Roenick line had a big impact today, as Justin Williams scored the game's first goal. Roenick assisted on Williams's goal and added one of his own on the power play. (Yes, you read that correctly--the Flyers actually scored on the power play!) Adam Oates scored his second goal as a Flyer into the empty net to ice the victory. Roman Cechmanek got the start and the win. In injury news, Eric Desjardins missed the game with a strained lower back, while Chris McAllister left the game in the first period with a broken wrist. McAllister will be out 6-8 weeks. If Desjardins's injury causes him to miss another game, look for a Phantoms--probably Bruno St. Jacques--to be called up.

Habs 3, Flyers 1

(4/4) The Flyers offense remained silent as they extended their losing streak to five games (the worst such streak in three years). The Habs, who are fighting to make the playoffs, completely outplayed the Flyers. The struggling Mark Recchi scored the only Flyer goal.

Bruins 4, Flyers 2

(4/2) The Flyers blew a two-goal lead today as they lost an opportunity to challenge Boston's grasp on the conference lead. Primeau and Oates scored for the Flyers, while Brian Boucher got the start and the loss.

Sabres 3, Flyers 1

(4/1) Keith Primeau scored the lone Flyers goal as the Orange and Black lost three straight games for the first time under Bill Barber. Roman Cechmanek took the loss, allowing two goals on 16 shots. The Sabres' last goal was scored into the empty net. The loss leaves the Flyers two points behind Boston in the East.
