Unlike a lot of the  TV Westerns   "The LIfe and Legend of Wyatt Earp" was based on a real person. Hugh O'Brian played the infamous Wyatt Earp.

I don't know how close the scripts were to his real life , but only on TV could you have two programs airing the same  year and both main characters be the Marshall of Dodge City. In the second year of Wyatt Earp, he was Marshall of Dodge City on Tuesday nights while Matt Dillon was Marshall on Saturday  nights.  One thing I do remember about the program was that Wyatt carried these super long pistols.
