Canterbury graduates

University of Canterbury(1)

Members must wear the academic dress appropriate to their degree. A smaller type of hood was introduced 1981, replacing the Cambridge full shape, traditionally used in New Zealand universities till then. This new hood is of the Cambridge pattern, but cut on a slightly smaller scale. Academical dress must correspond in respect of shape, size, material and colour to the standard specifications determined by Council and maintained by the Registrar.

Chancellor

Robe: peony red (BCC 37) damask embroidered with gold and gold lace.

Cap: peony red (BCC 37) trencher with gold lace and tassel.

Pro-Chancellor

Full dress robe: as for the Cambridge Master of Arts with the addition of detachable facings of peony red (BCC 37).

Undress gown: as for the Cambridge Master of Arts.

Hood: size, shape and material as the standard pattern maintained by the Registrar, made wholly of the material used for the facings, and lined with slate grey (BCC 154).

Cap: black bonnet as worn by Doctors at the University of St Andrews.

Masters

Gown: as for the Cambridge Master of Arts.

Hood: size, shape and material as the standard pattern maintained by the Registrar, of slate grey (BCC 154), with a coloured satin lining and 3" (75mm) edge. The neckband is also bordered with the same material.

Cap: black cloth trencher with a tassel.

Bachelors

with Honours

Gown: as for the Cambridge Bachelor of Arts.

Hood: size, shape and material as the standard pattern maintained by the Registrar, of slate grey (BCC 154), lined and edged with a 1" (25mm) edge of coloured satin.

This is used by the Bachelor Degrees awarded with Honours. It is also used by the Degrees of Bachelor of Agricultural Science, and Bachelor of Horticultural Science of Lincoln College, now Lincoln University.

Cap: black cloth trencher with a tassel.

Used for BA(Hons), BSc(Hons), BEng(Hons), BCom(Hons), BMus(Hons), BFA(Hons).

Bachelors

Gown: as for the Cambridge Bachelor of Arts.

Hood: size, shape and material as the standard pattern maintained by the Registrar, of slate grey (BCC 154), lined with coloured satin.
