Lincoln University(1)

 

Members of the university must wear the academic dress appropriate to their degree or diploma.

The dress for any degree of the University of Canterbury offered at Lincoln College prior to 1990, but which is not provided for in the regulations of Lincoln University, are as prescribed in the Academic Dress Regulations of the University of Canterbury in 1989.

 

Chancellor

Robe: black grosgrain with full sleeves and gathered yoke at the back, facings of ultramarine (BCC 148 ultramarine) satin, with a gold button and cord just above the sleeve, with a replica of the Coat of Arms of the University worn just above the gold button on each shoulder. The facings continue over the shoulder into a flap collar on the back and the sleeves are lined with Indian yellow (BCC 6) satin.

Cap: black velvet Tudor cap with gold cord and tassel.

Vice-Chancellor

Robe: black grosgrain with full sleeves and gathered yoke at the back, facings of ultramarine (BCC 148 ultramarine) satin, with a gold button and cord just above the sleeve, with a replica of the Coat of Arms of the University worn just above the gold button on each shoulder. The facings continue into the gathered yoke at the back. The sleeves are lined with Indian yellow (BCC 6) satin.

Cap: black velvet Tudor cap with gold cord and tassel.

Registrar

Robe: black grosgrain with full sleeves and gathered yoke at the back, facings of ultramarine (BCC 148 ultramarine) satin, with a gold button and cord just above the sleeve, with a replica of the Coat of Arms of the University worn just above the gold button on each shoulder. The facings continue into the gathered yoke at the back. The sleeves are lined with ultramarine (BCC 148) satin.

Cap: black velvet Tudor cap with gold cord and tassel.

Doctor

Gown: as for the Cambridge Master of Arts but is of signal red (BCC 208) with 100mm facings in the colour of the appropriate faculty down the full length of the front.

Hood: same size and shape as for the degree of Bachelor of Arts of the University of Canterbury, of silk in the colour of the appropriate faculty.

Caps: black velvet bonnet with gold cord and tassel, as for the University of St Andrews.

Doctor

of Philosophy

Gown: as for the Cambridge Master of Arts but with 100mm ultramarine (BCC 148) facings the full length of the front.

Hood: same size and shape as for the degrees of the University of Canterbury, of ultramarine (BCC 148) and lined with Indian yellow (BCC 6).

Caps: black velvet bonnet with gold cord and tassel, as for the University of St Andrews.

 

Masters

Gown: as for the Cambridge Master of Arts .

Hood: same size and shape as for the degrees of the University of Canterbury, of slate grey (BCC 154), and with the same colour lining as for bachelors, extending to a 75mm edge.

Cap: black cloth trencher with black tassel.

Bachelors with Honours

Gown: as for the Cambridge Bachelor of Arts.

Hood: same size and shape as for the degrees of the University of Canterbury, of slate grey (BCC 154), lined with material of the colour appropriate to the degree, and a 25 mm edge of the same colour.

Also for the degrees of BAgrSc and BHortSc

Cap: black cloth trencher with black tassel.

Bachelors

Gown: as for the Cambridge Bachelor of Arts.

Hood: same size and shape as for the degrees of the University of Canterbury, of slate grey (BCC 154), lined with material of the colour appropriate to the degree.

Cap: black cloth trencher with black tassel.

Postgraduate Diplomates, Graduate Diplomates, holders of Postgraduate Certificates and Graduate Certificates

Gown: as for the Cambridge Bachelor of Arts.

Hood: same size and shape as for the degrees of the University of Canterbury, of slate grey (BCC 154), unlined.

Cap: black cloth trencher with black tassel.

Undergraduate Diplomates

Gown: black cloth with a loosely gathered yoke and elbow-length sleeves and facings of emerald green (BCC 213) satin continued into the gathered yoke at the back. Of the type of the Cambridge Undergraduate gown.

Hood: none.
