Campus Service Officer Rocker Patch 1997-2001![]() |
In 1997, Laura Lorman became the new West Valley-Mission College District Police Chief. One of the first items on her agenda was to redesign the CSO (Campus Service Officer) patch. She wanted to change from the Campus Safety Services patch back to a patch similar to third CSO patch. To save money and bring the CSO’s patch back in line with the rest of the department a rocker that read “Campus Service Officer” was added over the current District Police patch. This patch was used until the end of the Campus Service Officer program in 2001.
The CSO program was started in 1981 as a way to help the Police Officers, in patrolling the interior of the campus and to teach the students how a Police department operated. Many CSO’s went on to pursue successful careers in law enforcement and rose through the ranks in their departments. While others went, onto careers in the military, private security, business, etc. However, many who started as CSO’s have stayed at the College becoming Police Officers including one who is now the lieutenant and has served as interim chief. There have also been CSO’s who went to other Police departments as Officers to return the College as Police Officers. Unfortunately, due to the inability to sufficiently staff the CSO program and budgeting, the program was terminated in 2001. The CSO program has cultivated many careers, and hopefully will be instituted again. |
