John Schleusener E-mail: [email protected] Date: September 9, 2008 Hello Russ, I continue to enjoy your website. So many fun things to look at/read. May I suggest a blog section to state your views and invite others to state theres on varying topics. For instance, Im sure you agree that skateboarding is all about freedom of expression. You can be yourself, hop on a skateboard and know that the sky is the limit. Many people are drawn to skateboarding because they feel that they dont fit in to other sports. Said persons start skateboarding and find a world that accepts them. Its a beautiful thing. Unfortunately, there are many that believe skateboarding is cool and if you dont fit into their interpretation of the art of skateboarding you are somehow wrong. This could be as general as the style of riding you choose, or as completely petty as your manner of dress. Having skateboarded since 1973, I know for a fact that skateboarding belongs only to the individual rider. Any attempt to put skateboarding into set parameters DOES NOT belong in the sport. Many magazines, TV shows, internet sites, and (sadly) skateboard companies themselves promote the idea that to skateboard you have to be aware of the current trends and apply them. May I suggest that awareness of fashion/technique/style trends in skateboarding should be viewed as poison to the sport. The only uncools in skateboarding are skating unsafely around others, thinking you have a right-of-way for any reason, condescension by way of trendiness, and violence. Skate often, skate safe, skate with confidence, and skate with freedom of expression. Skate on Russ! John Schleusener Thanks for the suggestion - you are the reason this section now exists on this Web site. Russ... |
