MAY 2001
District Camporee - May 18-19-20
The new Scout District for the Northwest side of Chicago has been created and organized, but not yet named. The first outing planned is the Spring Camporee at Camp Lakota near Woodstock Illinois. The theme for this outing will be "Retro." There will be a series of events during the day on Saturday based on the events in the last century, and a great Campfire on Saturday night. The ten events will be some Scout skills and some just plain games, but all will be fun. We will go out Friday evening on the 18th to set up camp and return after breakfast on Sunday the 20th. We will work by patrols, so attendance will be important on this trip to fill out the patrol. Normal equipment is recommended for this campout, but wear or bring your Scout shirt and neckerchief. So partial uniform is required. Remember there will be one more day than usual so bring an extra set of underwear.
We will have four meals in camp and a special fee is required for the camporee with Camporee Patch. The fee will be $12.00. That's more than our usual campout fee, but most of it is going right out to the District for expenses and the patch.
There will be hundreds of Scouts out there on Saturday. Don't miss this one, it's going to be something special. Permission slips will be available on Monday, April 30.

New Order of the Arrow Member
Alex Tikovitsch was inducted into the Order of the Arrow last month at the Spring Fellowship of the Keneu Chapter of order. Membership in the Order of the Arrow is by election by the Scouts. The Order of the Arrow is an honor camper and service organization within Scouting. Two more Scouts were elected who have yet to complete the induction process. Scouts Larry Lentino and Brian Quinn are awaiting induction. Congratulations to all.

Advancement - Advancement
Congratulations to Scout Patrick Conway on completing the requirements for Star Scout. Now it is on to Life and Eagle.

We've Got New Gear
Well it's about time! A new stove and gas connector pipe were purchased last week to give us a completely refurbished set of cooking gear. The new stove is a three burner gas Coleman like the one purchased last year. This will put us in good shape for summer camp meals and at campouts like the one coming up.
