The Alliance Pipeline Project

The Alliance Pipeline Project is one of the largest projects to appear in Alberta since the days of the megaprojects. With a budget of $4 Billion and a planned construction window of 15 months, it is the most challenging project of its kind. Al will discuss the status of the project to-date and an overview of the project scope, execution planning and schedule challenges facing the project.

Al Edgeworth is currently the Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, Alliance Pipeline Ltd. He comes to Alliance from Westcost Energy Inc. where he held various positions including Vice-President Pipeline Operations, Senior Vice-President Regulatory Affairs and President Pipeline Division.


Shell Athabasca Oil Sands Project

Time: Cocktails 5:30pm, Dinner 6:15pm, meeting 7:30pm

Shell Canada Ltd. in partnership with BHP is planning to make a presence in Fort McMurray with the development of a mine, extraction plant and pipeline at Lease 13 and an Upgrade at Fort Saskatchewan Refinery – Scotford. Mr. Magnusson will present an overview of the project scope, organization, execution strategy and current status.

Ben had been in the project/construction business on and off since 1965, mixed with other engineering and operating assignments.  Prior to joining Shell in 1972, Ben worked with an engineering contractor in Sweden designing pulp, paper and chemical plants.

Ben has held positions ranging from Project Engineer to project Director on many of Shell Canada’s major capital projects in the last 20 years including the World Scale Polypropylene and Isopropyl Alcohol complex in Sarnia in the 70’s. Scotford Refnery outside Edmonton in the 80’s and Caroline Gas project in the 90’s

Up until recently, Ben was Manager – projects, Technology and Shared Services with responsibility for all facilities capital projects in both the upstream and downstream sector of Shell Canada Ltd. Presently he has taken on the task to lead the execution of Downstream portion of Shell’s Lease 13 Oil Sands Project.
