Classes

One of the most defining aspects of an individual’s playstyle will be the class which they choose to play. Within the Destiny universe, there are three classes of guardian. A guardian’s class will determine which abilities they are able to use in combat, as well as the style of equipment that they are able to use.

Titans

Destiny 1

The Titan class is generally suited to individuals that would prefer to channel their abilities in pursuit of pure, raw strength. Titan-specific abilities generally consist of smashing, crashing and thrashing opposing forces. In Destiny 2, a Titan’s class ability summons a protective rally or towering barricade. Their jump ability is similar in nature to a jetpack with strong momentum but limited uptime.

striker

Striker

A class for players that like to get up close and personal. This class’s super ability, Fist(s) of Havoc, consists of a barrage of powerful arc ground slams.

sentinel

Defender(D1)/Sentinel(D2)

This subclass takes a more supportive approach to the Titan playstyle. In D1, this class’s super ability summons a barrier through which allies may retreat to for armour, a blessing of overshields, or a boost to weapon damage. In D2, the sentinel subclass slows for the user to summon a powerful void shield which may be used offensively via throws and shield bashes, or defensively by summoning a barrier through which allies may retreat behind.

sunbreaker

Sunbreaker

Through the use of this class’s super ability, a titan may summon a flurry of flaming hammers. These hammers may then be used to dispose of enemy forces.

Hunters

The hunter class is for those that prefer the renegade playstyle. The core of the hunter playstyle is fluidity. The hunter playstyle generally rewards skill and fluidity. In Destiny 2, a hunter’s class ability allows them to perform a swift dodge, reloading their weapons or recharging their melee in the process. Their jump ability allows for multiple successive midair jumps.

striker

Gunslinger

This solar subclass is all about precision. Its super ability allows the user to summon a flaming pistol, which, with a well-placed shot will ignite and devour an enemy’s very essence, and its melee ability allows the user to throw a knife infused with solar energy.

Crucible

Bladedancer/Arcstrider

While both of these subclasses super abilities vary in utility and effectiveness, the core of each one is the same. A hunter will summon a weapon infused with arc energy, which may then be used to elegantly dispose of enemy forces.

Dark Below

Nightstalker

The Nightstalker subclass generally serves as a support/stealth class. The class’s super ability summons a bow from which a void-infused tethering arrow may be released. This arrow will ensnare any surrounding enemy, rendering them powerless, while also increasing the amount of damage that can be dealt to said enemies. Nightstalkers may also summon smoke grenades that may either serve as traps for unwitting enemies or a temporary invisibility buff to allies.

Warlocks

Destiny 1

Warlocks can generally be viewed as the casters of the Destiny universe. Their playstyle rewards conscious and deliberate use of abilities in order to maximize synergy and effectiveness. In Destiny 2, a Warlock’s class ability allows them to summon a rift which an ally may stand inside of. This rift may heave healing properties or serve to empower an ally’s weapons.

voidwalker

Voidwalker

A rather simplistic subclass that draws power from the void. The super ability of this subclass summons a volatile mass of void energy which detonates on impact, obliterating anything within proximity.

dawnblade

Sunsinger/Dawnblade

The Warlock’s solar subclass differs majorly between Destiny and Destiny 2. In destiny, this subclass’s super ability empowers the caster, allowing the user unlimited grenade usage for a limited time. In D2, activation of a Warlock’s solar super ability summons a flaming sword, from which devastating solar projectiles may be launched.

stormcaller

Stormcaller

The stormcaller subclass allows a Warlock to channel arc energy into a powerful roaming stormtrance when its super ability is activated. This trance allows a Warlock to continually radiate powerful arc energy from their hands for a prolonged period of time.
