ENGLISH 101A
(Communication Skills 1)
The course aims to develop proficiency in communication through competence in the basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. It aims to inculcate knowledge of functional grammar and oral expression in situational, integrated and interdisciplinary cases. The course includes reading requirements that acquaint the students with general information, good writing styles and proper values. The course ends with the recognition and appreciation of different paragraph varieties.

Credit: 3 units.
Pre-requisite: none.


ENGLISH 101B
(Communication Skills 2)
This course is a continuation of Eng 101A. It deals with the different types of composition, narrative, descriptive and expository. Proficiency in recognizing writing the various types of personal and business letters is one of the Aims of the course. The terminal activity is a research paper on a chosen topic related to students’ specific field of study.

Credit: 3 units.
Pre-requisite:
Eng 101A.


ENGLISH 105
(Developmental Reading)
Readings aimed at enriching the students’ fund of information developing and provoking thinking and further improving their communication skills. Selection regarding scientific and general interest issues taken from current local and foreign publications as selected plays, essays and poems make up this study.

Credit: 3 units.
Pre-requisite:
Eng 101B.


ENGLISH 108
(Technical Writing)
The course is a study of the materials, methods, techniques and style of research and the recording of results. It emphasizes the gathering and organizing of research materials and the writing of technical reports and research papers. It trains the students in oral reporting with the use of modern visual aids.

Credit: 3 units.
Pre-requisite:
Eng 101B.


LITERATURE 101
(Introduction to Literary Types)
The course is an introduction to literature through the study of different literary types and forms such as poetry, fiction, drama and essay. The course aims to broaden and deepen the students’ understanding, interpretation and appreciation of literature. It focuses on the widening of communication skills with vocabulary build up through reading.

Eng 101B.


LITERATURE 102
(Filipino Literature in English)
The course is a study of the origin and development of Philippine Literature in English from the period of apprenticeship to the present. It includes the analysis and evaluation of representative authors and their works as well as the trends and influences in the shaping of this literature. The course provides a close look at Filipino values, customs, and traditions as they are manifested in modern Philippine writing.

Credit: 3 units.
Pre-requisite:
Lit 101.


LITERATURE 123
(English & American Literature)
This course is a study of selected works of English and American writers that adequately represent and mirror Man’s diverse dreams and distractions, triumphs and tribulations. The writer without interference of translation has chosen the selections because they retain the flavor and meaning as intended. The study and analysis of the works provide the student mature grasp of people and life.

Credit: 3 units.
Pre-requisite:
Lit 101.


Art Appreciation This course is an introduction to the nature of art and its basic types or divisions. It gives a survey of the history of these types, emphasizing the characteristics and features of major art movements or periods from ancient to modern times. This course also focuses on the masters of each movements or period and there masterpieces. The link with Philippine modern art is the terminal thrust of the course.

Credit: 3 units.
Pre-requisite: none.




SPANISH 1
(Elementary Spanish)
The subject introduces students to common expressions, basic grammatical construction, commonly used verbs and regular verbs in the three simple tenses used in ordinary conversation.

Credit: 3 units.
Pre-requisite: none.


SPANISH 2
(Intermediate Spanish)
The subject provides a review of common expressions, basic grammatical structure and the three simple tenses. It underscores Progressive Tense and the Perfect Tense as applied in ordinary conversation. Corollary to this, it strengthens speaking, reading, writing and comprehension skills of the students.

Credit: 3 units.
Pre-requisite:
Spn 1.


FILIPINO 1
(Sining ng Pakikipagtalastasan)
Sa kursong ito tatalakayin at bibigyan diin ang mabisang paggamit ng Filipino sa mga gawaing pakikinig, pagbabasa, pagsusulat at pagsasalita batay sa mga isyung intelektuwalisada. Dahil sa may apat ng kakayahan at kabatiran ang mga mag-aaral sa wikang Filipino, lilinangin sa kanila ang kakayahang magpahayag sa larangang akademiko, propesyonal at mass media. Gagamitin ang mga diskursong nagsasalaysay, naglalarawan, naglalahad, nagmamatuwid at nakikipagtalo sa mga gawaing komunikatibo.

FILIPINO 2
(Panitikang Filipino)
Ang kurso ay isang pagsusuri / pagpapahalaga ng pananaw. Binubuo and panitikan ng mga tula, maikling kuwento, nobela, dula at sanaysay na hinango sa mga rehiyon sa bansa. Magiging batayan ng pagsusuri ang kaugnayan ng tradisyong oral at naisulat ng mga sining / panitikan sa iba’t-ibang kalakaran – katutubo.
