ANCO sells purebred ram lambs born
in country at a subsidized priced to rural communities for the improvement of
the native breed. The importance of the
male in genetic improvement is well known.
When it is crossed with a native ewe, a lamb is produced with the
resistance and adaptability of the mother as well as the superior meat and wool
of the father.
ANCO does not sell ewes or
adult rams.
The buyer has the right to choose those ram lambs that please him/her
from the sale group. The buyer must pay
at the time of the sale and is responsible for transporting the animals. It is important that the vehicle for the
transportation of the animals has sufficiently high sides so that the lambs
don’t jump from the vehicle.
Additionally, we suggest strewing the bed of the vehicle with sawdust
and straw to keep the animals from slipping.
Price: $50 per ram lamb.
Age of the animal: Approx. 5 - 6 months
Available Breeds: Rambouillet, Corriedale, and
Poll Dorset. For more information about
the characteristics of the breeds, see the page Evolution of Ecuador’s Breeds.
Haciendas: El Tablón, parroquia Pifo, province of Pichincha, for
Rambouillet rams. Concepción de Monjas,
parroquia Lloa, province of Pichincha, for Corriedale and Poll Dorset rams.
Days Open: Monday through Friday from 7
a.m. to 4 p.m.
The ram lamb will mature sexually at
eighteen months of age. As an adult, it
can serve up to twenty-five ewes. In
small flocks, it’s recommendable to change the ram every two years to keep the
bloodline fresh.
In addition, ANCO sells wool and
sheepskins.
ANCO offers services of extension
and transference of technology, as well as courses of sheep management and
field days.
