This page will be devoted to the study of Werewolves and their ilk. The various forms of shape shifting.
Werewolves (or Shape Shifters) are one of the oldest and most wide spread of legends. From the continent of India, where Were-Tigers stalk the night, to Africa where Were-Crocodiles infested local rivers and streams, and Were-Leopards roamed the jungle, to parts of China and Russia where the stories are of Were-bears, to ancient Rome and Greece, where there were stories of men who became wolves and lived by devouring the flesh and blood of man. In Medieval Europe hundreds, if not thousands of people were put to death because it was believed that they were in league with the Devil and were in fact Werewolves
Werewolves are created in much the same methods as are Vampires.
In most stories, Werewolves have the ability to take the shape of the animal at any time, day or night, whenever they please. Some stories however have them only going through a transformation during the time of the full moon, while other stories say that it is only during the full moon, that the werewolf is not able to stop the transformation.
Once the change has taken place, the Werewolf is a demonic being with an insatiable hunger for human flesh and blood. Most often it seems,it is the loved ones of the Werewolf that find they are the beasts intended prey. They are also the ones that most often put and end to the Werewolf, making this relationship one that would seem best to be avoided.
Once someone has become a Werewolf there are four ways they may be destroyed.
The Legend of the Werewolf may be based in fact on a Mental Condition, known as Lycanthropy. There have been many documented cases of people with this condition, who while under its affects took on the mannerisms of animals. There are even a few cases in which the afflicted person was caught and imprisoned after they were found dining on the bodies of people they had attacked while under the influence of the disease.
Whether it is a monster who is cursed, or some poor person who is mentally unstable, or even what country the legend originates from, the Werewolf is a monster of mythic proportions that lives in darkness, and inspires fear in our dreams. Their is the classic "werewolf" where the person goes into a frenzy and changes shape at every full moon. This is the europeon belief that spawned the destruction of wolves during the middle ages. Infact humans have had such a horrid fear of wolves that to this day wolves are almost extinct. Though humans learned to hunt from these supposed werewolves at one point apparently humans became to civilized to live with them and felt they must then destroy them. Humm i wonder about a species that first accepts help then destroyes the person who helped them. But then look at the starveing pilgrims that first came to america. Then indians helped them feed and for that they were destroyed. Is their a pattern here, DOES history really repeat itself over and over again.
Back to the lycanthropes as such, now a way that werewolves are expressed by some native american cultures is that each person has a spirit inside them that is somehow related to an animal. Through contact with that animal we can share some of the characteristics of that animal. This is one way to explain the werewolf theory. Another way is to look at humanity as it flows down its time chart. All in all humans have only been in this universe for a cosmic blink of an eye. Now humans are going along eating what they can over all starving and in some cave paintings mostly in celebration it shows that they learned to hunt from wolves. That man learned to hunt in a pack and through that he could get more food for the group. So the basic animal knows that group work, that a groups working on a single problem is better than a single person. Is that not intelligence. Anyway so the humans learned to hunt, then suddenly theirs a jump in technology of humans from hunting in groups to useing weapons, they suddenly cooked over fires and had wheels to move stuff. It doesnt equal out that over the amount of time it took them to just learn to hunt as a pack and suddenly they had technology. Now we have always assumed beacuse they dressed up as half human half animal and worshiped those creatures as a god that they were just makeing it up. But dont we question, what if their was another race here that helped the humans. Try this on for size, was it just one day a human was walkign through the forest and picked up a leaf and said, HEY this would work great on a fever. Thats a bit of a coincedence. Now that must have happened thousands of times. AND heres a most interesting point it happened in EVERY culture around the world. Now native americans credit it to the spirits that taught them how to heal with herbs and hunt and such as do all cultures, but like with them all most assume that they made it up. I dont think so, i think infact what these people were seeing was something very similar to werewolves in that they were half human half animal in that they were part spirits.
Now in the europeon and asian cultures it continues their growth till they start to try to improve their technology beyond nature. Its like at one point they turn from nature and hate the things that taught them before such as the wolves. In the middle ages wolves were hunted almost to the point of extenction and to this day they are still almost gone from this world. But in one culture this didnt happen. In native american culture that didnt happen and because of that disease was almost ended when the europeons first came and slaughtered. Infact their is an old indian prophecy from cherokee that was said before the people had ever seen a white man. The spirits came to the village and said that a white faced palgue was comeing and that if the people wanted to survive they should come with them and the spirits would take them from this world and make them safe. The indians laughed and thought the spirits were wrong and said they wouldnt go, a few did and those few disappeared and were saved. Not long after the first white soldiers came and killed.
Facts about Werewolves and Lycanthropes:
As a general rule most of the werewolves or lycanthropes ive met and guided have had several traits in common.
First we are a VERY moralistic people. Takeing some morals to the point of death only a couple of things can cause us to break our morals and one of those is the next thing on the list.
Second we are creatures of high emotion. We feel as few others believe possible. It has been known to have sadness so deep and hard that some of our kind have gone insane and even died. When we love it is so deeply that we are only allowed to mate and love one person our entire lives. This is more rule than felt but usualy we feel that strongly when we love. Our emotions govern us and it can cause us trouble at times. In essence we draw the ability to go into a rage and feel empathy even our connection with the earth is emotional.
Third we are animalistic in form and attitude. At times we can be even more savage than imaginable this has given rise to Many of the "Europeon" visions of the werewolf tearing people apart. This isnt entirely unknown for when we go into this rage we use more than a normal amount of adrenaline combined with sugars in our blood stream. Our bodys under go a VERY physical and a psychological change. The physical changes are obvious because of the things in our blood, greater strength. Because of the enzymes and hormones released we lose the ability for rational thought and normal emotions. It would seem to an observer that we are animals and in a way they are right seeing as we are already very animalistic. We relate to animals naturaly and we like to be near nature as the earth and the wild are as much a part of us as our hands.
Their are certain things that never change and we always have. For one we can see better in the night, our night vision is incredible, as are our senses of smell taste and touch. These things naturaly make us better hunters, killers, and protectors.
Yes i said protectors. Usualy we have an "area" or a part that is ours or a packs. We protect that area and take care of it and intrusion by other packs or even humans is often ended with blood and death. In times past warriors of our species wore the skins of wolves while in battle or in every day life thats where the world "werewolf" came from. But as that is a Europeons version their are others. In america before the white man came their were also werewolves that protected the indians and taught them. Thats all I can say on that as it is a secret and shouldnt be discussed. When we select an area we will mark it so that others know not to go their and soon no one hunts their, wether their hunting humans or animals.
On the subject of vampires, most of us hate them. It is something natural I guess or maybe as it was in my case it is experience. My only run in with a so called vampire was very painful and left permanent scars on a friend of mine. In that case the female vampire drained him of his blood hopeing to gain his strength and power. Now the unusual part as this is not supposed to be possible, but the so called "vampire" did indeed gain some unique abilities. She could see better in the dark hear better and do some other things that belong to us. He on the other hand lost the abilites and is just now regaining the majority of his power. Among the most powerful things he lost was our ability to heal at a faster rate and because of that he has scars from the attack.
In smaller cities such that I live in we are part of a common pack with
different back grounds but since we all share some of the same features we dont
fight to much. We have our hands full anyway with all the supposed mages around
and such with their evil practices. That is also part of our job but i cant
discuss to much of those things here as they just arent told to people outside
of the pack. In other areas you might have different packs with different ideas
but a few things are common and their other packs in the us and other areas.
They will all generaly have common laws and ideas but those will always be
lawfull and essentialy good relative that if your point of view of good is
protection of the earth and your areas and your family and pack at all cost.
