Namibia:  A land of unearthly beauty

If anyone had told me a few years back that someday I would visit Namibia and fall in love with it, I would have said, Nam-what?!?

Of course I knew where that was --geography was my favorite school subject.  However, I never thought of it as a travel destination.  After all, there are places like Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe or South Africa that have captured the hearts of many a wildlife lover.  Having been to Botswana, it seemed impossible for me to believe that another place on earth could offer such a well-managed and amazing array of natural and human treasures.  Those lucky enough to have been to Namibia would probably agree with me: Namibia is a magical place that deserves all of our respect, care and admiration.

Acknowledgements

It wouldn't be fair if I didn't mention those who made my trip an unforgettable one.  There is my always helpful and enthusiastic travel agent, Dori Peterson of Acacia Travel, who knows a thing or two about Africa and whose advice is always invaluable.  There's Jonathan Everett, our guide whose passion and knowledge about nature, not to mention his patience, excellent cooking and sense of humor, had us learning and laughing at all times (Jonathan and Shorty, our assistant guide, have the most contagious laughter I've ever heard).

Finally, I thank Namibia, its government and its people for protecting wildlife, for making tourists feel so welcome, and for setting an example of what the world could be like with wisdom and intelligent management of resources.

And here is a great web site full of useful information about Namibia: www.my-beautiful-namibia.com
