WARMASTER

Warmaster is a tabletop battle game played with tiny model warriors representing the armies and races of an embattled fantasy world.

To play Warmaster each player needs to collect, assemble, and paint an army consisting of units of infantry, cavalry, artillery, monsters and war machines. These are led to war by special pieces called characters representing mighty heroes and powerful wizards.

Warmaster can also be played in teams in which case each player need only contribute a few units of troops and a character model. This is a great way of getting started or of joining in a larger game alongside more established players.

Warmaster is a game about generalship and command not just about combat. Troops are moved by means of orders requiring dice rolls which are easier or more difficult depending on the commanders skill, the proximity of the enemy, terrain, the distance the troops are from their commander, and how much attrition the unit has suffered. Players are required to balance the chance of completing a successful manoeuvre against the possibilities of failure.

Magic and monsters play their part too for this is a fantasy world populated by evil sorcerers, dragons, and monstrous races such as the green-skinned Orcs and cadaverous undead. These things can aid a carefully made plan but cannot win a battle alone only the massed ranks of troops, of cavalry and densely packed infantry backed by cannons and engines can do that.

Although the game can be played on any flat level surface, players can create their own battlefields using model trees and buildings such as those employed by railway modellers. Adding miniature terrain and introducing towns and villages makes the battles much more attractive and adds considerably to the appeal of the game.

The Warmaster rulebook contains all the rules required to play including the army lists for the six armies that have been designed for it: Men of the Empire, High Elves, Undead, Dwarfs, Chaos and Orcs & Goblins.

The models are sold in blister packs. In some countries you can buy introductory army deals too these are promotional packages and the contents vary from country to country. Each blister pack has been designed so that it contains a single unit or, in the case of characters, enough pieces to make up at least three different character stands including a general, hero and wizard where appropriate. This is intended to make it convenient to add to armies as required one blister equals one unit.
The horns of battle sound their clarion call as thousands of your most hardened troops shake the earth of the Old World itself with the rhythm of their march to your commands. Overhead, flocks of winged monsters and other fantastic beasts shriek their defiance at your opponents in the distance. With a sudden surge and shout of bloodlust your army races towards the enemy lines in search of total victory or death in defeat!

From the same Design Studio that brought you Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 comes Games Workshop's game of grand scale fantasy miniatures combat - Warmaster. Spawned from the mind of Warhammer creator Rick Priestley, Warmaster is a tabletop miniatures wargame of keen thinking, shrewd strategy and daring tactics! Set in the same universe as its larger sized cousin Warhammer (Warhammer miniatures are larger at least), Warmaster pits gigantic armies of the Old World in a vicious struggle for glory, victory and fame over the upstart forces of your opponents.

Warmaster utilizes an amazingly detailed line of 10 mm (about 1/2" tall) miniature soldiers which represent entire regiments of the deadly troops and spectacular creatures from the races of the Warhammer World. At present, six main armies have been produced for Warmaster including the haughty High Elves, inhuman forces of Chaos and unliving legions of the Tomb Kings of Khemri. Continued support for Warmaster is supplied through the pages of Warmaster Magazine, White Dwarf Magazine and a constantly growing collection of new armies and Warmaster scale scenery from the designers of Fanatic! and Forge World.

Warmaster is a game of grand strategy and tactics wherein a General will have thousands of miniature troops at his disposal to grind opponents into the blood-sodden dirt of the battlefield. Games of Warmaster are conducted on a scale which would be impractical for any but the largest of Warhammer gaming tables. Rather than being a game of regiments, heroes and small skirmishes, Warmaster is a game where entire batallions of troops clash in mortal combat.

Six-sided dice are used in Warmaster to resolve battles, test the resolve of your troops and determine whether your forces heed your commands or rebel against your steel-willed generalship on the tabletop. As with all of Games Workshop's tabletop miniatures games, the heart of the Warmaster Hobby is painting, collecting and playing games with armies of incredible-looking Warmaster miniatures. However, more than our other games, Warmaster is a pastime for those Generals who wish to take command of entire cohorts of hard-fighting miniature soldiers! Do you have what it takes to be a Warmaster?

Having trouble translating the rule book from British to English? Read this:

Butt Butt UK: The dog-end of a cigarette or 'fag'

A note of explanation from Me: The words may and can are, interestingly, used slightly differently in British English and American English. People who speak English as a second language tend to follow the American. Strictly speaking, may means are permitted to and can means are able to. Now, because Americans are much more can do, can always implies may, and may can mean can sometimes but not necessarily always. Because the English dont like to appear impolitely positive can can mean may and may mean may not. In either case may can mean might or maybe or possibly the month that follows April. I hope thats cleared that one up.
