Willis Franklin Evans Sr  and  Emma Winters

Willis Franklin "Bill" Evans was born February 21, 1856  in Ohio ( near Centerville, IL ??)  and was the oldest son of  George W. Evans and Lavina Mackey  who were pioneer settlers of this vicinity.  Willis  died  from cancer on July 19, 1928 in Rudd, Iowa. His body was accompanied back to IL. by his widow, his daughter Gertrude Webster and his brother Charles. He was place to rest beside his children in Mackey Cemetery in Piatt Co, IL..

 

Emma Winters the daughter of George Winters and Mary Ann Stenger was born  Jul 18, 1864 in Sumner, Indiana and died Dec 28, 1935. After Willis died she married Ben Kendrew of Rock Falls, IA. She lived the last four  years of her life with her daughter Gertrude Webster. Gertrude accompanied her body to  Illinois for burial. She is buried in Mackey Cemetery.

Willis and Emma were married  in 1881. In 1883 they traveled from Illinois to Blue Hill, Nebraska in a covered wagon. They had a few children in Nebraska then came back to the old home place in 1895. On their way back Willis Jr. fell out of the wagon and his sister Lona saw him and got him back into the wagon (told by ImaJean Evans).  They  lived there until about 1914 at which time they moved to Rudd, Iowa.   At the time of his death Willis had two brothers and one sister living. They were Charles,  Allen, and Anna. 

 

Willis & Emma had twelve children

 

1. Edward Charles Evans  was  born  June 06, 1887 in Blue Hill, Nebraska.  He worked as a superintendent  for Tower Products Company in Chicago, IL.    On September 24, 1925  he suffered injuries at work when something weighing 700 pounds fell on him. He died on Sunday morning February 14, 1926 in West Side Hospital, from toxemia due to fracture of spine when he was injured .  He is buried Elmwood cemetery in Chicago.

He married Ruth Sarah Ritchie. Their children are  William Haney , John Robert, Edward Charles, Gerald George.

2. Harold "Shorty" Daniel Evans  was born in 1903. He died Mar 12, 1975 in Rockford, Iowa. He married  Georgia "Dolly" Mae and they had three children  Mona  Mae  (M: Huck Ackley),  Norine Clair  (M: Robert Sellers Daughter Ruth Sellers)    and a son Wilber Keith died at birth 1929.    

3. Virgil McKinley Evans   was born Oct 17, 1900 in White Heath, IL. and died March, 1970 at age 69, in Plymouth, Iowa.  . He was a farmer. He was married to Mary Lucas (M: 1/21/1920). 

They had four children  W ilma (M: Orlwin Trevette),  Joyce,   Alta,  Mildred. 

4. John Evans  (Maxcine Evans said that she thought John might be  a nephew of Willis Sr. instead of a child)

5. Estella Evans died in childbirth or as a child. She is buried in Mackey Cemetery

6. Claude " Jack" Evans + Jean Seymour Their children are June , Illia May,  and Robert M: Dorthy Fultz

7. Lona Evans + P. Oscar Gee lived in Farmer City, IL.

Their children are Vera, Opal (M: James Jackson), Gertrude, Franklin (m: Lorna), Jessie, and Oscar Jr

8. Gertrude Katheryn Evans B: 1/21/1885 D: 7/18/1978 . She married Garfield Webster July 18, 1905 at Monticello, IL.

In 1907 they adopted a one year old boy whom they named Richard Harold Webster.

9.. Hazel Gladys Evans  born June 1, 1898 in Monticello, IL.  She died July 24, 1990 at the age of 92. At the time of her death she was living at the  Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, IA.  She was married three times.  She was survived by one son Evans R. Howe. Preceded in death by three husbands, one son Harry Howe and two daughters, Lois Ott and Bernice Howe.  Evans R.(M: Betty), Lois (M: Francis Ott), Harry E. Howe (M: Janet Baldwin),  Harriet (died age 10)
