1st Day of Spring-Good Friday Easter March 2008 Winter Storm

(Thursday, March 20th late evening-Friday, March 21st afternoon)

The storm spread snow in various amounts throughout the state (Duluth-12 to 14 inches, Twin Cities-6-10 inches, etc...), which I had about 9 inches measure in my back yard...

House in Morris where I worked

-Time Lapse (Morning around 9:30am to Afternoon around 1:30pm)

After work (3pm), I went home "looking forward" to do more shoveling. This time, the snow got heavier!....

I (Sal) used a yard stick and placed it in 2 different spots (1st spot-10.75 inches "pictured" above & 2nd spot-10:25 inches "not pictured") in the backyard of my house

I took this picture facing the front of my house as you can see the snow is covering the front steps of my house! The picture (right) here is of my neighborhood (along E. 3rd St.) as you can see the far car still covered with snow, which is a familiar site in this college-community (many students when home for a 1+ week spring break)

Saturday, March 22nd of 2008

I took this pic as a city plow cleans up California Avenue (going south) by the corner of E. 3rd Street in front of my house around 10:20am this morning. We had about less an inch of additional snow overnight-early morning..

  • Ah, spring: South metro gets its biggest snowfall, Star Tribune Last update: March 21, 2008 - 9:29 PM

  • ' A snowstorm that targeted a swath of the southern and western Twin Cities Friday dumped the biggest snowfall of the season on communities including Chanhassen, Burnsville and Hastings.
More light snow, possibly mixed with rain, is expected over the next few days. No big storms or major warmups are forecast and highs should be in the 30s and lower 40s, said National Weather Service forecaster Todd Krause.
Created by a potent mix of two low pressure areas and a cold front, Friday's storm dumped nearly 10 inches of snow on Chanhassen, 8 on Burnsville, and 6 inches on Hastings, Krause said. Red Wing got 10 inches.
But northern suburbs didn't get nearly as much. Weather Service measurements showed less than 2 inches in Forest Lake, for instance. As much as a foot of snow was reported Friday near the North and South Dakota borders.
"To say this is the heaviest snowstorm of the year, that's true for the southern suburbs," Krause said.
The northern suburbs had recorded more snowfall earlier in the season.
Friday's storm contributed to dozens of minor crashes and cars slipping off the highways during the morning in the nine-county metro area, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. But later in the day, roads stayed generally wet rather than snow-packed.

  • "On the first full day of spring, a winter storm dumped as much as 11 inches of new heavy, wet snow on parts of southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
The National Weather Service reported that by 8 p.m., 11 inches of snow had fallen in Chaska and in the

    Stevens County

town of Donnelly, and nearly that much in Red Wing. Burnsville got 8.7 inches. In western Minnesota, Starbuck got 10 inches while Madison received 9 inches.
The weather service posted a winter storm warning through 7 p.m. in an area starting near Morris and going southeast passed Rochester and into Wisconsin.
No significant delays were reported at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
As for the rest of the Easter weekend, Chris Shaffer said it's expected to be drier, with cool temperatures and highs expected to reach the upper 30s.
There is the potential for some flurry action on Easter Sunday morning, but most of the snow should melt off fairly quickly."

Still Snowing in April! -Monday, April 7th of 2008

Birds getting their food from a feeder in front of the group home I work at. I was hoping to ride my bike to work this morning, but I was suprised to see all that snow (2-4 inches) outside of my window prior to work!

Back at my house after work to shovel all that heavy snow, which majority (75%) of it would end up melting by the end of the afternoon.

Yes, yes, the snowstorm is originally reported from Minnesota, but the Iron Range is byond technicalities such as squiggly lines on a map. (In fact, Da Yoopers music was flown in space, thus proving that Yooper--and thus Iron Range--culture is inter-galactic.)
Back on Earth, school had to be closed in some places due to the snow.I-94 westbound out of Alexandria, MN is shut down. More snow and sleet is expected today."

"Early" Winter Blizzard on Sunday, December 14th of 2008

These are pictures I took during my rare "breaks" while working my 39 straight hours (from 10p Saturday to 1pm Monday) at the group home. I was somewhat prepared for this long stretch at work (on-call /part-time job) as this blizzard was talked about a lot 2-3 days prior. I wasn't prepared for the shortage of staff (the same co-worker and I only from 6a-6pm).

    Pictures the following day...

  • Clean up ending or just beginning? Morris Sun Tribune Published Wednesday, December 17, 2008

  • "City of Morris crews worked in bitterly cold temperatures on Tuesday to clean up some of the snow that fell on -- and blew into -- Morris on Sunday and early Monday.
Between 8 a.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday, the West Central Research and Outreach Center recorded that 4.5 inches of snow fell in the area, along with another half-inch of precipitation.
Making the clean up work even tougher were high winds and temperatures that reached a high of minus-10 degrees on Monday and Tuesday and bottomed out at minus-22 degrees.
But that might just be the start of another round of snow and cold. Snow began falling again Tuesday afternoon, there is a 30 percent to 40 percent chance of more snow on Thursday, and snow is possible on Friday night into Saturday. It appears a white Christmas is all but guaranteed.
Plus, Thursdays predicted high temperature of 10 degrees could be the balmy reading of the week."

    10 to 20 Below Zero Weather!-Sunday, December 21st of 2008

It was too cold to go anywhere-besides church this morning! Yesterday, we had some more snow (around 1-3 inches), but not as BIG as last weekend. However, windy enough to cause folks to not able to travel. Thus, I worked the "overnight" (10p-8am) shift last night-this morning!...

    Definitely a "White Christmas"-Tuesday,Dec 23rd 2008

I was planning to drive to the Twin Cities this morning, but decided to postpone it due to our "fresh" 3-4 inches (on-going w/flurries as I write this as of 12noon) of new snow!...
