Creating a server
A couple points about creating a
server for CoD. I run on a cable system that get pretty good
speeds both upload and download. The best I have done is
holding 8 players without much lag issues. CoD seems to
require a lot of bandwidth for the game so it may be best to look
into renting a server if a good server is needed.
The best place to get
information about setting up and managing a server is at www.codadmin.com.
This site has so much information available that it may seem
overwhelming. The only problem is finding specific
information due to the vast amount available on the site.
None the less it is a great site and if running a server is the
goal, spend the time reviewing what it has to offer.
The instruction manual
does an OK job outlining the basics of setting up a server so this
will be assuming that that has been reviewed. In setting up
a server, setting the colors of the server is the same as setting
colors for the players name. Refer to the Stuff link in the
color setting. Make sure to set the ping settings on the maximum
ping so that high ping players don't lag the server.
Friendly Fire
Use
caution with this setting when allowing teammates to kill each
other with friendly fire. I have played many times when some IDIOT joins the game and ends up shooting at their own
team. The Reflect setting seems to be the best for what I
have played.
Message of the Day
The
message of the day appears in the box when first joining a
game. This can be added with an additional line to the .cfg
file for the server or by typing in console from a non-dedicated
server

Voting
Allowing
voting is a good tool to allow players to change maps, change game
types or kick players during the game. It's a nice addition
to the game as long as players don't abuse it.
