Memoirs from Tour 1998 - Singapore / Czech Republic
The birth of Soccer Plus NZ was found very much as a result of this tour. Ninteen of us travelled to Singapore where we worked alongside YFC running coaching clinics all over the place.
Through these clinics we were able to share the gospel face to face with over 500 people. Add on to that the many people who heard the gospel through the one on one evangelism that took place almost everywhere.
We only played one game together against a school team, winning 6-1.
In The Czech Republic everything changed. We spoke a different language, the people were different and it was much colder. We also managed to play 7 games, winning 3, drawing 2 and losing 2 (one against the National Indoor Team).
Because of the language differences we didn't share with many people, but we did help to advance the work of local churches and ministry organisations by playing good soccer and conducting ourselves well.
As our tour coincided with the World Cup we handed out about 4000 World Cup Gospel Booklets.
