Cocktail
1988 *** 103 mins.
This is an entertaining little flick in which Tom Cruise plays a cool, talented bartender. There is wonderful character interaction between the two male leads (Tom Cruise and Bryan Brown), and it is that character interaction that makes the film move. I guess that's why the first part of the film is great, the last part of the film is great, but the middle section just drags. The film has a great soundtrack including The Beach Boys and Little Richard along with some great bar scenes. The romance is not covered as thoroughly and believably as it could have been, but the ending is good. I guess I should say that the film has some very strong points and some very weak ones, ultimately even-ing my rating out to three stars.
Rated R for language, sexual content, and brief nudity.
