pretty in pink

1986 **** 96 mins.

I must admit that, personally, I would give this film five stars because I am absolutely in love with it. However, it is not truly deserving of five stars. It is a very, very, very well-made and entertaining film, but it does not bear any disticntive elements that make it any more special than any other teen romance/comedy of the '80s. All that needs to be said is that John Hughes is the king of the genre.

Molly Ringwald plays Andie, a girl who doesn't exactly have much money, but does have a "volcanic" sense of fashion. She falls for Blane (Andrew McCarthy), who is a rich boy who is shunned by his friends for going out with Andie. Meanwhile, there is Duckie (Jon Cryer), who, for me, is the real star of the show. Duckie provides the comedy, the tears, and the common sense wherever everyone else lacks. Pretty in Pink is a classic film with a killer soundtrack.
Rated PG-13 for language, violence, and sexual innuendo.
