This prototype of a beautiful coup was reported to have built by the Finnish Valmet company in Uusikaupunki. Apparently, they tried to sell their idea to Saab but presumably it was not successful.

Saab Offroad Estate

To be introduced: Autumn 2001

Saab is thinking of building an off-road version of their 9-5 station car - although, because of the absence of a reliable 4x4-chassis, the car might just be a reinforced, long-legged estate with soft macho style.

Baby Saab (codenamed Saab 9-2)
To be introduced: Summer 2002

Whether these photos are fake or not, I do not know. But Saab is believed to be thinking of making a car below the current 9-3. Prototypes reportedly exist but no decision has been made yet to build the car.

Saab Aircraft

If you think the cabin of a Saab looks like an aircraft cockpit, this is because Saab was first and foremost, and still is, an aircraft manufacturer. In fact Saab stands for Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget or Swedish Airplane Company. Here are some of their military aircraft:

Saab Prices

So you think a Saab cost you an arm and a leg at your place? Wait till you see the cost of a Saab at my place, Singapore. The import price of a basic model Saab 9-5 1985 cc Ecopower Automatic is about S$35,000.00. After adding customs duties and other taxes, and the dealer's profit margin, the retail price is about S$140,000.00. You will have to bid for one of several thousand licences issued every month, called a Certificate of Entitlement (COE), to purchase the car. COE prices fluctuate from month to month. It has exceeded S$100,000.00 but the average price is about S$50,000.00 for 2 litre cars. So, the average cost of a basic model 2 litre Saab 9-5 is about S$190,000.00!
US$1.00 is about S$1.71 as at Jan 2000
