2002 Titans

    4/25/02 - Kuemper
Deja vu?? Seemed like the same story different day. Just the opposite from Tuesday. This time we had a bad first half, couldn't put passes together, and held on to it too long. We turned it around the second half and finished on some of the previous missed opportunities from the first half. They scored first in the first half just 5 minutes into the game. We answered right back about 5 minutes later when Daniel Knigge hooked up with Ross Shepard to tie up the game. The second goal came off a nice over the top pass from the middle of the field by Luke Thomson to Daniel Knigge. Daniel went around and put it away to take a 2-1 lead. With only 30 seconds left in the half we had our second mental breakdown at defense and failed to communicate. They put in their second goal and tied the game at the half. We had a pretty good heart to heart talk at the half. We were not very sharp in the first half and had way to many touches on the ball before the pass. Move around, switch fields and pass the ball. Use the corners and you will score. The second half we finally for the first time of the year took advantage of the wind and managed to take control and put this one away. We looked much better in the second half and put in 4 unanswered goals. In the second half Ross Shepard scored two more goals for the hat trick for the night, and Jimmy Johnston put in the other two. The assists in the second half were two by Jesse Smith and one by Daniel Knigge. Good all around game by Luke Thomson tonight who had to step in to cover for Keiths red card. Josh Grosvner got kicked in the JV game but managed to play through it and played well. Dan Gulden, Jesse Smith, and Seth Jackson played after being ill all week and managed to suck it up and played for the team and decided to be sick later. It was a learning experience tonight and the young grew up a little. It felt good to finally finish and put a team away. We will have two good days of practice as we prepare for Glenwood coming to town on Monday. This will be another great challange, in fact next week will be two great games with Glenwood at home on Monday and on the road to Denison on Thursday. Good job tonight and check back next week.

I hate to say I told you so but hey JV did it. JV won tonight 2-0. Not only a win but a shut out to boot. They really played together night like I keep telling them they can. There was some fight in their eyes tonight and when we scored the first goal they got some confidence as well. The first goal came from a great cross from John Koucerek to Josh Grosvner who put it away. Moments later Josh said thank you for the pass and goal and set up John for the second goal. Defensively JV played well again tonight with Ben Edwards running a tight ship back there. Monday will be a good test with Glenwood to see if we have learned anything since the begining of the season. Dan Black who has been out with a concusion will be back and ready to step back in at defense and allow us to move some people around. I talk to the boys all the time about knowing your place and your role on the team. Scott Versch, backup Keeper for JV is a real class act and a great example. On Tuesday even though we lost, Bruce Pomerleau played a great game. We were in the second half and we wanted to get every one into the game. I asked Scott to get warmed up and ready to go in. He said coach we are playing well and Bruce is doing a great job. I was impressed by his team attitude and focus to win. He did it again tonight but we still did put him in in the first half to get him some time. Great attitude and great team player Scott. Great win and CONGRATULATIONS JV on the first win of the season.
