return to upcoming events or news

Lismore is gearing up for what is set to become a very unique event. The 'Northern Rivers Herb Festival - Celebrating Natural Living' will take place in various venues throughout Lismore over a 9-day period during National Herbal Medicine Week, August 11 - 19, 2001.

NORPA will kick-off the festival period by hosting the most prestigious event of the festival - the ‘Hot’n’Spicy’ Ball. The ball will take place in City Hall on Saturday, August 11, 2001.

Lismore's famous restaurant and eatery community will play a major part in the festival by getting involved in the inaugural 'HerBBQ'.
The 'HerBBQ' is the place where you can enjoy a variety of Lismore's finest gourmet herb-morsels in the one spot.
Some of the dishes include Sista's 'Jamaican Tofu Kebabs', Caddies 'Herb Bikkies' and The Left Bank's famous 'Lemon Myrtle Fettuccine'.

The Herb Festival will provide a variety of free, all-day-and-night, entertainment that includes the 'Red Hot Organic Chilli Peppers', 'Twilight Aroma's', 'Herb Grooves' and the inaugural 'Great Herb Debate'.
The festival is currently talking with Mandy Nolan in the hope to secure the local talent as the headline comedy act.

The festival will also put on a unique display of the region's best herb-related and value-added products at the Herb Bazaar markets.
Visitors to the festival will be able to sample and purchase some of the region’s highest quality handmade healthy items from soaps, to oils, to native rainforest cordial.

Youth activities lined up for the festival include a “MAAD Herb Day’ at the skate park in Heritage Park and a ‘MAAD Thyme’ late night concert at City Hall.
Contact Hotline (formerly Streets Ahead) for more information.

Various kiddies and indigenous performances will play an integral role in this niche family-event. And for those interested in growing herbs as a commercial venture or even just as a hobby, the festival will host a variety of workshops and conferences by Cellulose Valley and NSW Agriculture.Louise Barry
