Wishing you all a great Holiday
Season and thanks for visiting my little site.
I'm not sure if I'll be updating
before the new year rolls over, so I'll wish you a Happy New Year now!
Next week's Entertainment Weekly
(Russell Crowe on cover - Ain't he a hunky Aussie!) has Mark's new house
as it's Gimmee Shelter blurb. Seems Mark lives not too far from Jack Nicholson!
If you remember I had an article
about Pride & Glory, the NYPD movie Mark is in talks to do. Still unsure
if he signed on or not, but found a link (Courtesy of Upcomingmovies.com)
to the production
company so you can keep a lookout. Note Hugh Jackman is listed as cast
- now that is another fine Australian!
12-27
Much to the disappointment of
many UK fans, WB has pushed the UK opening of Rock Star back to January
11th! Bugger! as my former roomies would say. Thanks to Britgirl
for checking on that.
12-24
Garth over at Dark
Horizons notes Coming Soon reports The Truth About Charlie is set for
March 8. Of course you know how dates can change, but it's a start!
The Uk magazine Movie Idols features
Mark in one of its latest issues. You can order a copy online
for US peeps.
Archived some old items that
have popped up in my surfing. Covering the recent movies, including a MSNBC
interview for Rock Star, Mark's takeover of Capital FM while in the
UK to promote POTA (make sure you check the actual
site to hear the sound clips) and a TPS
interview where Mark discusses TK, TPS, RS, & O11!
12-22
If you live in the Bay Area,
the Red Vic theater in SF is playing Rock Star this week.
Fox has only one screening of
POTA for Academy voters - Jan 9, which seems low compared to the 3 screenings
TPS had last year. Guess FOX isn't pinning any hopes for much nominations
save Rick Baker.
POTA did recieve one nomination
for Best costume design for Colleen Atwood in the Golden Satellite Awards
- winners announced Jan 19.
From the Boston Globe: Wahlberg
on hand
Yes, Brockton, that was Mark
Wahlberg hanging out on Main Street yesterday. The former Dorchester boyo,
now the star of such movies as ''Planet of the Apes'' and ''Rock Star,''
was on hand for the dedication of the refurbished gym at St. Edward School.
And why not? It was the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation, founded earlier
this year, that picked up the tab of nearly half a million dollars.

Better pic of Mark's artwork
over at E-Bay
where it up for bid ($81 at the mo)
From the Boston Herald: An
upscale taste of Hull
Hollywood hunk Mark Wahlberg
- surrounded by bodyguards - did some ho-ho-holiday shopping at the South
Shore Plaza over the weekend. We're happy to report that our favorite Dorchester
homeboy did find time to sign autographs for the mall rats. Because he's
such a giving guy and all. . . .
Also, while home for the hols,
Mark and mom Alma feasted at Bridgeman's in Hull, where bro Paul is executive
chef.
Word is, Marky's palate -
not to mention his attitude - has apparently gotten an upgrade since becoming
Hollywood's It Boy.
Paul claims his little bro
would never bulk up on filet de boeuf when he was a rappin' street punk.
``It was all egg whites and
chicken breasts with no skin with him,'' said a friend of the chef's. ``He
would never cook for him.''
Now, good taste abounds!
Updated the BoxOffice figs for
Mark's movies, thanks to Variety.
A bit OT: Mark's other bro -
Donnie - is set to star in the adaptation of Stephen King's Dreamcatcher.
He co-stars with Timothy Olyphant - who was in Rock Star.

Ananova reports another project
Mark is 'set' to do. As I said before take it as a grain of salt as nobody
else seems to know about this: Jude Law and Mark Wahlberg are set to
co-star in a remake of sexual drama Forbidden Relations.
It focuses on a remote farming
community in the '70s where a young widow finds solace in the arms of a
mysterious stranger.
She later discovers the charismatic
drifter is her half brother.
Despite a spell in prison
and being ostracised by the community, they set up home together.
Ashley Judd is being tipped
to play the widow, with Law taking the role of local sheriff and Wahlberg's
love rival.
The story is based on a Hungarian
adventure of the same name which was released in 1983.
The film is due to go into
production in Dakota next summer.
Here's the direct
link to all the stars handicrafts for Homemade in America. Mark's isn't
up for auction yet, but it is up in display at NYC's New Folk Art Museum.
Here's a piccie from Corbis until AOL puts up Mark's on their pages (It
says: 'Together We Make a Difference' and reflecting Mark's religious beliefs
- 'Jesus Christ Loves All' and his sig's on the bottom):
While I was away, Mark was doing
some great things for kids out in Boston & NYC. First off on Wednesday,
he helped launched the Boys & Girls Club's Campaign
3PM in NYC and this weekend opened up the gym he donated money
to help fix up in the Boston area. More details by one of he members, Liane
(not me), who went to the event on MW.com's
message boards.
12-14
From Ananova (UK-PA): Mark Wahlberg
to star with Reese Witherspoon
Mark Wahlberg is set to star
with Reese Witherspoon in the new romantic drama As Cold As Ice.
The film is loosely based
on the 1928 movie The Michigan Kid.
Josh Hartnett is tipped to
co-star, with Kelly Makin directing.
It is about two boys fighting
for the affections of one girl as a forest fire bears down on their town.
OT: Mulholland Drive was voted
best picture by the NY Critics.
12-11
Don't forget to check Shop@AOL
for Mark's contribution.
The LA
Times finally wrote up Mark's transaction on his new digs.
12-08
AOL will be auctioning art items
made by celebrities, including Mark (I'm pretty sure they mean 'our' Mark),
Wednesday. The PR doesn't say
what Mark made so check AOL on the 12th at Shop@AOL
or AOL keyword Homemade in America. All money raised goes to the Red Cross
& the NY State World Trade Center Relief Fund.
Just in case you forgot, the
Tribute to Heroes Telethon video and CD are now on sale worldwide. Let
me know if you buy it, if it differs any from the broadcast version or
if there are any extras.
12-06
From Las Vegas Review Journal:
...
At the Billboard bash Monday in MGM Grand's Studio 54: Gwen Stefani of
No Doubt, Godsmack, Incubus, Shaggy, Aaron Carter, Coolio, Matthew McConaughey,
Hammer, Lee Ann Womack, Jamie O'Neal, Bernie Mac and Mark Wahlberg. Kazuko
on the MW.com boards notes there are pictures mislabeled as Mark at the
Billboard Awards (they're of Mark Walberg of Temptation Island fame) So
put this under ???
12-05
I'm sure you've all read it,
Mark's being sued by his ex-bodyguard.
Sorry it's a bit late, crisis of the month at MW.com.
An 'Aww' moment for Mark, the
Boston Herald reports:
We hear Dorchester homey-gone-Hollywood Mark
Wahlberg ponied up $9,000 to the undefeated Dorchester Pop Warner ``D''
team, which was a little short of funds for the trip this week to the Super
Bowl in Disney World. Super move, Marky!
12-01
Thanks to Monica who saw MTV
Italia mention Rock Star was recently at the Torino Film Festival November
19th.
Found a bunch
of articles from over the summer, including several interviews and
a report on Mark's visit to the Paris Nobu. And details on the RS DVD.
They're a bit scattered, in the July, August and Nov sections of the index.
Some Charlie tidbits - Time Out
NY: You sing a tango number in The Truth About Charlie, Jonathan Demme's
upcoming remake of Charade. How did that come about?
Anna Karina: I didn't know
him at all. I get this phone call, we meet, and he says, "Read the script.
You're playing yourself. The scene takes place in a wonderful cabaret."
It's a great moment, with about a hundred tango dancers. But the part's
too small, and I tell him I'm not going to do it. And he says, "Anna, this
is going to be the greatest scene in the film! You sing a tango! And I
want you to write the lyrics." So I said, "Well, okay, that changes the
whole thing." Rachel Portman wrote the music, and the song is called "Charade
d'amour."
From The Observer (UK): Hôtel
des Croises (Hôtel Langlois)
Where: 63 rue Saint-Lazare,
9th, metro Trinité (00 33 1 4874 7824)
Why: Beautiful rooms. Near
the shopping district and the opera.
What: This impressive nineteenth-century
building with its traditional wood-panelled reception area and old lift
with wrought-iron gate was used to film the remake of Charade, The Truth
About Charlie. The hotel will be renamed the Langlois after its film name
next year when the film is released. The 27 rooms are huge, and are decorated
with period furniture, some with marble fireplaces and wood panelling.
Though rooms on the lower floors have been redone and have much larger
bathrooms (number 15 is enormous), those on the fifth and sixth floors
have more character and are lighter, with good views over Paris's rooftops.
From rooms 63 and 64, you can see the top of Sacré-Coeur, while
62 has a small alcove that can be used as a sitting-room. Rooms have television,
phone, minibar and hair dryers.
Price: £48-£53
double (slightly higher rates in March, May, June, September, October and
December). Breakfast £4.
And just a slightly OT: World
AIDS Day is Dec. 1. Despite all the research
and breakthroughs, the disease continues to claim millions around the world
and even in our back yards, as ignorance and shame continue to hinder those
afflicted. A great series about the history
of AIDS recently ran in the San Francisco Chronicle which I urge all
of you to read.
11-27
In the Nov. 26 issue of US Weekly:
Mark was spotted with David Spade at NY's Centro Fly recently.
A short article about the tribute
concerts with word video of the Concert for New York is in the works!
Added a Zap2It
interview (Sept) with various people involved in Rock Star. Not to
be picky, but they made another mistake in regard to Stephan Jenkins' character
despite him saying otherwise in the interview. Don't they have editors?
11-25
Just a note, the CD for the
Concert for NY goes on sale Tuesday. This is the one that aired on VH-1.
It's just the music, so no Mark intro, but just a head's up. Next Week
however the Tribute to Heroes will be out on video, so those who missed
or just want a DVD/VHS/CD version, it will be out.
11-24
According to the NY Post, Mark
was spotted with Sean "Puffy" Combs at Sarafina recently.
11-21
POTA DVD Review from the Toronto
Sun.
A bit OT: but you know BN &
3K were given NC-17 ratings initally by the MPAA. (BN for all the sex,
drugs and the final scene & 3K for sex, exploding head and other picky
things) One small studio is spearheading the drive for another rating for
films. LOT 47 recently released L.I.E.
which was given an NC-17 rating, despite rave reviews and awards, many
theaters will not play it because it carries the NC-17 tag. To read about
the issue and write to your senator (and the MPAA) visit Lot
47.
11-18
Posted a new article about the
Deep
Anniversary Party Mark attended Nov. 6. Also an old Rock
Star Q&A.
11-17
US Weekly has a little article
about Mark's rise to fame which includes a skyview of his new pad. Anyway,
the article had alot of out of date info. As you all know Mark Shields
runs his website now, not Mark's pal. Let them know you'd appreciate it
if they would do some research instead of being lazy and use old data (try
to be a bit more tactful than that) at [email protected]
Also People magazine's Sexiest
Issue (Pierce Brosnan) has a smallish pic of Mark at the Rock Star Premiere
which you probably seen 10 times by now. Sheryl Crow thinks he's hot. There
are loads of George Clooney pics, which reminds me the trailer for Ocean's
Eleven are running along with the POTA DVD commercials.
11-15
ET reports Mark was at the Victoria
Secret Fashion Show this week and it airs Thurday night. Don't know if
you will actually have him on camera but wouldn't hurt to watch! Update:
Mark is suposedly in the front seats, so watch!
Another review of the POTA DVD
at FilmFreakCentral.net.
And word is POTA
2 will not start til at least 2003. No word from Burton if he's on
the project (Mark will only do POTA 2 with Burton according to last reports).
11-12
Rock Star opens in Australia
Thursday and US/Canada fans can buy the DVD next year on January 22 (thanks
Kazuko). About.com has more pics from the LA Premiere here
and comments from the Red carpet.
The official POTA website has
been revamped and has added a bunch of new stuff to read and download,
including new wallpaper of Mark! Here are the links for 640,
800
and 1024
screens.
11-10
The Tribute to Heroes telethon
is set to be released on video along with a 2 disc CD! And folks not in
the US/Canada actually get to buy it a day ahead of us!
Some more info on Mark's possible
movie from IF Magazine (Summer 2000): Fine Line is optioning the rights
to Gregory and Gavin O'Connor's police drama PRIDE AND GLORY after their
success with the brothers' mother-daughter road trip film TUMBLEWEEDS.
PRIDE AND GLORY is a gritty drama about the professional and personal lives
of a three-generation family of New York Policemen. It was co-written by
the O'Connors (whose father was an NYPD Detective) and former NYPD officer
Robert A. Hopes. Gavin will direct the film, which Fine Line is planning
to put into production this year. One of the more unusual aspects of the
film is O'Connor's intention to cast real cops and criminals in the film.
The brothers are shooting documentary footage of their research on the
project. The film is yet to be cast.
