2nd Station: Kawasaki

History
You can see the 1st big river on the way to Kyoto, called "rokugoo". People in this district had a difficult time due to flood after flood, and they first had a serious financial problem during early Edo era. What they did was to start ferry business for travelers to and from Edo. Their economy went up, and the number of inns increased.

This station is also famous for the place of Namamugi jiken or Namamugi incident in 1862. One British gentleman was killed by samurai who was in Daimyo gyoretsu (Daimyo procession) of Satsuma (now Kagoshima prefecture in Kyushu, southern island) since he did not prostrate himself on the ground (dogeza), and the incident became an international affair between UK and Japan.
