I
seek of course the healthiest. Genetic screening plays it’s role in
any health conscience breeding program, but that has its limitations
too and certainly can’t guarantee or rule out all problems. We can
only do our best and the rest is up to chance and circumstance.
The one factor that plays a heavy part in
producing the best offspring is Honesty, yes, Honesty! It does not do
the breed any justice when breeders cover up flaws of their lines and
sells the offspring to another breeder that is totally unaware of
these health issue’s. What it does to the breed could be
devastation, heartache, pain and suffering, not to mention financial
loss/cost.
If we share and relate with each other what
each line has or the potential problems; we can make better choices in
our breeding programs and the result will be healthier offspring;
happier outcomes; and the Betterment of the breed in general.
