Red & Blue Walkthrough
Part 2: Mystery of Mount Moon (Mount Moon-Vermilion City)

Route 3:

Along Route 3 you will encounter 8 trainers. These trainers Pokemon range from level 9-14. This is a good place to raise and a good warm-up for Mount Moon. After every 2 battles (unless you're already near-dead) we reccomend you head back to Pewter and heal. We
really reccomend that you catch a Jigglypuff, but that could take a while (They are VERY rare). After you have battled all the trainers heal outside the Pokemon Center in front of Mount Moon, go to the grassy spot, try to catch a Jigglypuff and head into Mount Moon. Mount Moon is the first real maze in all of Pokemon Red & Blue. There are 3 floors and 2 of them are full of trainers (12 in total) try the best you can to fight every trainer. You also should look for a Clefairy and a Paras, they are very rare. The whole place is full of members from Team Rocket. Bring 10-20 Potions if your planning to fight everyone and everything in Mt. Moon. The Rockets have strong Pokemon, one has a level 20(!) Raticate. You should also buy a few Escape ropes if times are tough, but you find an escape rope on the first floor so you may not need to buy one. Near the end of Mount Moon you come across a guy with two Fossils, after you whip him you can take one of his Fossils. Both are good but we reccomend you take the Pokemon you like more. Dome Fossil makes Kabuto, and Helix Fossil makes Omanyte. You can ressurect the Fossil you choose on Cinnabar island, way later in the game. Thats the end of Mount Moon.

Cerulean City:

Cerulean City is the home of the second Gym, but thats not the only thing to do in this town! If you have a Ivysaur, Wartortle, or Pikachu level 25, you should fight Misty, the Gym Leader right away. If not, head north of the city to Nugget Bridge  and raise your Pokemon to a higher level. Right before you head up to Nugget Bridge you have to fight your rival, AGAIN! He has a level 18 Pidgeotto, level 15 Abra (it can't attack so get your weakest Pokemon to kill it), level 15 Rattata and his Starter at level 17. Heal and save after you beat him. Head up to Nugget Bridge and fight till your health is low, heal and keep fighting. Once you beat the first 5 trainers, you will recive a Nugget. The man then asks you to join Team Rocket. Since you refuse you must battle him to continue on. After you beat him you will have to fight yet another row of trainers. But first, you should go to the grassy spot and catch Abra. Since Abra will teleport away the first chance it gets. Use a high speed Jigglypuff to put it to sleep first so it can't teleport away. Lower its HP and catch it. Go south of Cerulean, after you finish Nugget Bridge and put it in the day care while you beat Misty. When your done, it will be close to level 15, raise it to level 16 to make it evolve into the Powerful Kadabra. Go back up to Nugget Bridge and proceed to fight the trainers on the way to the sea cottage. Once you get there, Bill will give you a S.S. ticket to get aboard the  S.S. Anne in Vermilion Harbour. With the ticket, go stomp Misty and her cohorts with you high-level Pokemon (by now they should be mid 20's). Your reward for victory is the Cascade badge and TM 11, Bubblebeam, a good water attack. After you beat her head south to the daycare, pick up Abra and raise it to Kadabra. Try to trade Kadabra and it will evolve (at any level) to Alakazam, then trade back (you must have another Gameboy, a link cable and another Pokemon Game). On the way to Vermilion you will fight a few trainers. Stomp em and head on down to Vermilion City. Your team should look something like this: Starter Level 25, Pikachu Level 20, Kadabra/Alakazam Level 22, Jigglypuff Level 20, Spearow/Pidgeotto Level 22 and Beedrill/Butterfree Level 22.
