Creating Auxiliary Flags
Sometimes having a single, all encomposing flag for an organziation is just not enough. You need a few extra flags for the different branches of an organization and even for the officers serving the organization.
I decided to take this concept and apply it to the city in which I live - San Antonio, Texas, U.S.A. I created a number of flags for various individuals and organizations in the city.
City Flag: This is the latest version of the Flag of the City of San Antonio, Texas. It is a flag of blue and red with a large white mullet or star centered upon it. The star is charged with the post-1848 facade of the Alamo chapel formerly known as Mission San Antonio de Padua.
The original version was a white flag with a blue map of Texas. On the map was a tiny white Alamo facade where the city would be and the name "SAN ANTONIO" written across the state in white.
Later the blue and red version was adopted but had "SAN ANTONIO"  written across the top and "TEXAS" across the bottom. It was finally simplified in 1996 to the current version seen here.
Proposed Mayor's Flag: I took the city flag and added a white, 5 pointed star in each corner. The arms of the city in gold and detailed in black have been placed over the large central star.
Proposed Former Mayor's Flag: Each outgoing mayor should receive a token of appreciation and symbol of leadership. The Former Mayor's Flag is identical to the Mayor's flag encept that the arms is silver and detailed in blue.
Proposed Flag for the City Council: It is identical to the city flag except that 5 small white stars are added encirlcing the large white star which is symbolic of a council session. The Alamo is rendered in gold and detailed in black.
Proposed Flag for Civil Aviation: The City of San Antonio operates two airports - San Antonio International Airport and Stinson Field. The flags are the traditional light blue flags used for civil and military aviation. The flag of the city of San Antonio is used as a canton and the city arms in gold and detailed in black is centered in the fly.
Proposed San Antonio River Patrol Ensign: The San Antonio River is a major attraction in San Antonio. To help keep tourists safe, The San Antonio Park Police regularly patrol the river in small boats. I propose that a special ensign be used for those boats. It is a green flag. The flag of the City of San Antonio is in the canton and a yellow anchor in the hoist. Green and yellow are the colors of the Park Police.
Proposed San Antonio Civil Ensign: Because of it's depth, there is very little traffic on the San Antonio River. In fact, the only traffic on the river are the occassional water taxi and the tour boats. Those boats could fly the San Antonio Civil Ensign.
