NTTDS Special Events

Second Saturdays:
Contra Dance at Senter EAST Building, 228 Chamberlain Street, Irving.
When: June 13, Aug 8, Sep 12, Dec 12. 7-10 pm.
Directions:    From Loop 12, take the Shady Grove exit and go West approx 1.4 miles to the third traffic light, at Senter Rd. Turn right on Senter, go 2 long blocks to Senter Valley (intersects from the right only). Turn right on Senter Valley, go one block, and turn right on Chamberlain. The road into the Senter East Building parking lot is on your right after you go past just a few houses. Look for the brown wood sign on the right. The building is tucked in a residential area, so is easy to miss. On Chamberlain, if you reach another street (Delaware), you've passed it.
One reason for this dance is to grow new musicians and callers. Neither will be paid, but will gain real-world experience. If you'd like to sit in with the band, contact Mimi Rogers, , 214-357-8213. If you'd like to call, contact Linda Mrosko, , 903-451-5535

Third Saturdays:
Starting July 2009, our new lease with the Plaza is for First Saturdays ONLY. The Third Saturday contra dances from Sept to Dec 2009 will be at First United Lutheran Church, 6202 Mockingbird Lane, about 8 blocks east of Central Expressway, between Skillman and Abrams, on the South side of Mockingbird. We'll be in the school building directly behind the sanctuary building.

Dec 31 - Jan 3: Fiddler's Dream music and dance camp. Priority registration by NTTDS members before Oct 24.

DATE CHANGE: March 19-21, 2010: "Set for Spring" English Country Dance weekend, here in Dallas. Details to follow.

DATE CHANGE: April 23-25, 2010: 20th Annual "When In Doubt, Swing!" Contra Dance weekend, at Sokol hall here in Dallas. Bob Dalsemer calling to the music of Steve Hickman and Evening Star. Details to follow.

Publicity

We are trying out several new ways to get publicity.

Sylvia has setup a Meetup account for us, where our dances will be listed for anyone to find. The more people a meetup has, the more likely others will take it seriously and try it. Please visit and sign up (it's free).

Linda Mrosko has gotten us listed on the Dallas Morning News Guidelive web site.
Anyone can post reviews of events, so please go there and post a nice review for us.

We're also on Facebook. You are encouraged to become a member.

Contra dances are held on the 1st Saturdays of every month, 8-11 pm,
at the Plaza Arts Center, 1115 4th Ave, Carrollton, TX 75006
(Mapsco 12 C, near the intersection of Interstate 35 and Belt Line Road).

3rd Saturday Contra Dances will be at First Lutheran Church at least through the end of 2009.
Admission is $6 for members, $8 for non-members, and $4 for children 12 and under and students with ID (worth it just for the music).
The Plaza hall has a wonderful soft sprung wood floor, and the dances use live music.
Beginners are encouraged (but not required) to come to a brief introductory lesson at 7:45 pm.

English Country dances are held on the 4th Saturday of every month, 8-11 pm,
usually at the Quaker Friends Meeting House, 5828 Worth St, Dallas, TX (Mapsco 36 Y).

Occasionally, the location changes to Sons of Hermann Hall on Elm street near Fair Park.
There is no fixed admission charge, but a donation (e.g. $5) is requested.
The hall has a nice sprung wood floor, and the dances use recorded music.
Please bring a separate pair of clean dance shoes to protect the floor.

For all our dances, NO experience is needed.
We walk through every dance before doing it to the music.
NO partners are needed. We encourage everyone to change partners for every dance.

Non-NTTDS Dances

Dallas International Folk Dancers meet every Friday night 8 to 10 PM
at Quaker Meeting House.
Their web site has more information and links to other ethnic dance groups.

Scottish Country Dance Classes are held every Friday night 7 to 10 PM in Grand Prairie. $5 for adults, no experience or partners needed. More info: http://home.mesh.net/sonntag.
