Congratulations to Newtownshandrum's Muireann Harrington and Caroline Giltinan who played with the Cork Junior Camogie Team in the All Ireland Final on September 5th.

Cork contested the All Ireland Junior Camogie Final at Croke Park on Sunday, September 5th 1999. The Cork Juniors are no strangers to Croke Park on All Ireland day as the junior title has come to Leeside on no fewer than five occasions, the last being 1996.

While the Derry forwards were looking dangerous, the teams were level five times in the first half. Derry's captain Mary O'Kane billowed the net in the 18th minute. However, Cork's Orla O'Sullivan responded one minute later when she went on a blistering solo run through the Derry defence and finished to the net with precision. The half time score was 1-5 each.

Derry took control 12 minutes into the second half when Paula McAtamney scored a goal to give Derry a three point lead. But, Rachel Moloney's nine point tally destroyed the Derry side. Her contribution to the match earned her 'Player of the Match' Award. She equalised with three points in succession and as full time drew near Cork were leading by two points. Martina Mulholland pulled one back but the 'Leesiders' held on for a one point sweet victory. The cup was presented to Cork's proud captain Helen Walsh from Eire Og.
