Remove paper from inside of appliqué

Following the guidelines on the main appliqué page on how to do the appliqué stitch, sew the hearts to the background fabric. .
.
.
After they are sewn down, you have to remove the freezer paper. Turn your appliqué over to the back.

To remove the freezer paper,  carefully make a small snip in the background fabric behind the heart close to the seam allowance.

Do not cut through the front!!!

Use your scissors to carefully cut away the background fabric behind the heart. Leave about 1/4" seam allowance.

Removing the backing behind the heart allows the appliqué to lay nicer and you have less fabric to quilt through.

............

Sew your four practice hearts together in any of the above ways, your you own way.
