Meet
Dr. Hom |
Dr. Hom has over 25+ years of medical optometric eye care. For the last
four years, he has served as the Coordinator, Primary Care Optometry, San Mateo Medical Center. Despite the California Optometry therapeutic legislation, Dr. Hom has
significant exposure and responsibility in managing and caring for acute and chronic medical eye problems including
iridicyclotic, angle closure and primary angle glaucomas, diabetic retinopathies and ophthalmic complications from endocrinologic conditions.
As part of his most recent work with
diverse patient populations, he has read widely about the legal,
medical and social consequences of effective organizational
competency in serving patients requiring cultural and language
appropriate services (CLAS). He lectures to medical
professionals on this subject and plans and initiates projects for
organizations and private practices seeking better exposure to these
populations.
Not only is Dr. Hom an expert in medical optometry, he is also a talented contact lens and low vision practitioner. He was an In house consultant for three (3) Kaiser medical centers ("Golden Gate Customer Service Center") fitting post surgical and keratoconic and partially sighted patients.
He has also
served the profession of optometry with service as an online moderator, author and consultant on Optcomlist (15,000 OD audience);
ODWire.org (4,300 OD audience) and Proactive Optometric Physicians. In addition, he is on
a frequent continuing education speaker on diabetic eye care, cultural
sensitivity and competency and patient cognition in medical decision
making and outcomes. He is a member of the Allergan Speakers Bureau and is an accomplished product marketing and management consultant with experience in multi-billion dollar
corporations.
