Third- or fourth-winter subadult at Waterloo, Trinidad, early 2000. Photo � by Graham White. Note the dark spot on the tip of the upper bill and the slight warm tones in the wing of this heavily worn individual. Found by Graham White and Floyd Hayes, this individual was present from 9 January to 12 April 2000; what may have been the same bird, identified by the position of the dark spot, reappeared on 4 October 2000 and lingered at least until 31 January 2001.

Note the dark wings compared with a Laughing Gull (L. atricilla) and white-tipped inner primaries. The bill was described as "pink at base and black at tip" and the the tail was described as "white with grey tip."
