Basic plumaged adult with Laughing Gulls (L atricilla) at San Fernando, Trinidad, 18 October 2002 (A) and 9 December 2001 (B-C). Photos by Russ Jones (A) and Floyd Hayes (B-C). The absence of white-tipped primaries suggest that they were worn off, or may be indicative of a fourth-winter immature. The dark grey back contrasting with the black wingtips and the streaked head are diagnostic of the southern subspecies L. f. graellsii, which is the only race recorded thus far in the southeastern Caribbean region. | ||||||||||||||||||||
