Data Link Protocol 1. Asyncronous protocol เป็น Protocol ที่ง่าย ใช้ค่าใช้จ่ายต่ำในการจัดการข้อมูล เป็นProtocol ที่สนใจเฉพาะ start & stop bit -- XMODEM - ใช้สำหรับ FTP ผ่านสายโทรศัพท์ โดยส่งได้ทีละ file - ทำงานแบบ Half Duplex , Stop and Wait ARQ - ในส่วนของข้อมูลประกอบด้วย 128 byte - มี CRC เป็นตัวตรวจสอบ error -- YMODEM - ส่งได้หลาย file ในคราวเดียว - ส่วนของข้อมูลประกอบด้วย 1024 byte - ใช้ CRC-16 เป็นตัวตรวจสอบ error - support batch transfer --ZMODEM - ผสมระหว่าง XMODEM กับ YMODEM - error detection ดีกว่า XMODEM - support file ขนาดใหญ่ -- BLAST - Block Asynchronous Transmission - ทำงานแบบ Full Duplex ,Sliding Window -- Kermit - FTP คล้าย XMODEM - ทำงานแบบ Full Duplex 2. Synchronous protocol ใช้ใน LAN,MAN,WAN เพราะเร็วกว่า Asynchronous ท Character - Oriented protocol ทำงานแบบ Half Duplex , Stop and Wait ARQ ท Bit - Oriented protocol ใช้ flag characterวางที่หัวและท้ายของข้อมูล
