My name is Bessie Van Tassel.
I was born in Oklahoma. My parents divorced when I was five,
and my mother bought us three children to Arizona, where I
grew up.
I married when I was very (too young). We had 5 sons, but it
was never a happy marriage, and finally divorced. The same
year as my divorce. It was the 2nd marriage for both of us.
I lost one son 4 months before his
18th birthday in an auto wreck. That was the hardest time of
my life, but with God, my husband and one younger son I
survived.
I went to work when my youngest son started school and worked
until Jan. of 2003 when I retired to stay home with my
husband who had fallen and broken a hip. In Sept. of 2003 I
lost a stepson and 4 days later
my husband.
Truman had been sick for several years and I think he grieved
him-self to death, although the doctor said it was a heart
attack. He died sitting at the kitchen table, and I thank God
he didn't suffer long. We had been happily married just 33
years and I still miss him everyday, but he is where he and
God want him to be. It is hard, but by letting my loved ones
rest in peace, I can go on with my life. I decided to stay
retired and work on my websites.
My great-grandmother on my dad's side was a Choctaw,
and traveled on the 'Trail of Tears' in the 1800s. In the
Indian Territory, one of her daughters married a white man
from VA whose grandfather had come from England. They had one
son, (my grandfather) and he had my dad, which makes me 1/8
Choctaw. My mother's family came from
England, Ireland, and Scotland, So, I guess you could say I
am a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
I am a retired mother of four living sons, two step-children,
grandmother of four, and a lot of step-grandchildren. I am a
great-grandmother of three darling little girls.
One son and his 16 year-old-daughter live with me. It helps
us all out. We share our home with our two little dogs, both 10
years old, who think they are master of the house.
I have had a personal website since 1999. I started a website
for my mother's poetry in 2000.
She doesn't write anymore but her site is still up. In 2003,
I started a second personal website but I discontinued that
site in 2006. I brought some of those pages to this website
that made this site larger.
People ask me what I do on the computer. I love building web
pages! To me it's like being creative that was never possible
before. The Internet helps me to stay in contact with family and friends. I also enjoy
watching a good action movie,
reading a mystery novel, and doing crossword puzzles. I don't
like housework or yard word anymore, and do just what has to
be done.
God is my Savior. He helps me through all the crisis of my
life.
