Site of the Week :
Markus Wydera's Balloon Mail Site
Markus Wydera has put together an excellent site on Balloon Mail. The site has stamps, cancellations, covers on Balloons. Lots of text describe what the stamp is about. The history of Balloon mail has been brought out artistically through stamps.

The first model hot air balloon built by Bartholomeu de Gusmao Portuguese Jesuit pater. He demonstrated models of hot air balloons on August 8th, 1709 in Lisbon in front of an important gathering headed by the Portuguese King John V. With this as an introduction with stamps and cancellation Markus brings out the chronology of lighter than air flight. A very impressive performance!

Please note: The stamp image displayed here is from the site.
