The first of its kind wheelchair lift Gillig
The same Gillig as above seen from a different angle
The wheel-chair lift Gillig was the first of its kind. This bus is a 1954 Gillig Transit outfitted with a wheelchair lift. To accomodate this, the roof was raised a few inches and the floor modified to accomodate such a lift.

Bethel School District #403 (WA) Bus 50-3
This Gillig is a 1950 Gillig parked outside Tacoma White Engine Company. The neon sign is seen over the bus. The date of this photograph is 5-15-1950, and the photographer is unknown. This bus probably has a White engine, though the standard engine in Gilligs at the time was the IHC Red Diamond and the Hall Scott gasoline engines. The photograph is a part of the Tacoma Public Library's Photography Archive. There are a few UNUSUAL things about this Gillig. One: There is only ONE red roof flasher, and its on the left side of the bus. Two: The four black rubrails are a wraparound design, completely encompassing the bus, except on the front where only the two lower ones did. Three: The headlight design. The bus has two headlights, and the turn signals are above it, while the foglamps are below it. The design of this bus  was introduced in 1945, and continued until 1954, when the Gillig got a slight re-design. The redesign included a reconfiguring of the headlight design, in which the fog lights were placed slightly lower to the headlights, but diagonally away from them - towards the outside. Also, in 1954, Gillig added another roof flasher, on the right side, and omitted the wraparound rubrails. The next redesign for Gillig came in 1964, when Gillig introduced the Cummins C-Series engines. the 1964 design stayed until 1982, with minor changes in contour design, roof height, and interior specifications.

A 1952 Gillig Power Wagon bus
This is a 1952 Dodge B-3 Power Wagon with a Gillig school bus body. It was originally one of two bought for Foresthill Unified School DIstrict in California, and was recently sold to a guy in Texas and is now undergoing a complete restoration. It has a 126 inch wheelbase, and was fun to drive, according to its owner. It is also a 4-wheel-drive bus as well.

An inside view looking forward in a 40's Gillig
Here's an interesting photo looking forward inside an early 40s Gillig Transit Coach. This bus was equipped with luggage racks overhead. As you can see, the basic design of the Gillig never really changed much in this photo.
