High Tensile Steel with flanged-channel pillars that become a box section when the outside skin is riveted to them, running from skirt to center line of the roof, heavily gusseted to floor cross members. Longitudinal members, including sills, skirt rails, belt rails, window and roof rails are welded to pillars, forming a one-piece arch type integral framework. Unit is strongly braced and reinforced to absorb shock from all directions.
FRAME CONSTRUCTION:
EXTERIOR PANELS:
Side and roof panels are of body steel, all double riveted to framework
RUB OR CRASH RAILS:
Two heavy steel rails, one double fluted at seat cushion level, and one triple fluted at floor level, extend full length of body on each side, affording maximum protection to passengers.
INSIDE LINING:
All steel curverd panels are die formed to contours of the body, installed by sheet metal screws and lock washers.
INSULATION:
For heat, cold, and sound control, waffle felt is cemented to roof lining panels and waterproof asphalt-treated felt to side panels and lower side lining.
FLOOR:
14 gauge steel panels heavily reinforced and formed to make them dustproof at point where they are fastened to body sills. Floor is ramped, reducing wheelhouse height, yet allowing for 74 inches headroom in front of bus and 69 inches at back.
FLOOR CROSS SILLS:
Heavy gauge pressed steel channels back to back at each pillar running across full width of body.
Wheelhousings:
Box-type heavy gauge steel extending minimum distance aboive floor level. Sound deadening material applied to underside.
ROCK GUARDS:
Heavy metal shields immediately back of rear wheels to protect body panels from flying rocks. Splash guards behind rear wheels.
ENTRANCE DOOR:
Two-leaf steel box type construction, front leaf opening outward, rear leaf inward, mounted on full piano-type hinges with glass panels in upper and lower portions of both leaves. Minimum clear door opening 30" x 69". Doors controlled by heavy-dutry chrome-plated manual door control operated by driver.
EMERGENCY DOOR:
Side emergency door on right and left side just ahead of rear wheels. Also, an emergency escape hatch in roof. Emergency doors and escape hatch to be sponge rubber weatherstripping.
ENTRANCE STEP:
All steel with two completely enclosed steps, covewred with non slip replaceable safety thread.
SPARE TIRE CARRIER:
Mounted in Engine compartment when possible, otherwise swing out type underfloor between axles accessible from left side of coach. Optional equipment included at additional cost.
FRONT BUMPER:
8 1/2'' heavy steel channel completely protecting front of bus
REAR BUMPER:
Heavy steel channel extending around rear corners and mounted securely to chassis frame. Sloping "anti hitch" shield extending from bumper to body to eliminate the possibility of "hitching" a ride.
FLOOR COVERING:
Armstrong's plain Armoflor or Automat. Ribbed Automat center aisle and coved corners at side walls, cemented on saturated waterproof insulation paper.
SEATS:
Tubular Steel frames with steel back panels. Seat cushions of spring and padded type, upholstered in two-tone genuine leather. Seat backs are sponge rubber. Legs on Aisle side. Wall side bolted to angle on body sill. Standard spacing 29'' centers. Seat frame 1'' extra heavy duty steel tubing.
DRIVER'S SEAT:
Adjustable highway bus type, with springs and padding, upholstered in genuine leather.
STANCHIONS AND GRAB RAILS:
Heavy Duty stainless steel veneered rail is installed back of driver's seat, protecting passengers in front left hand seat. Full height stanchion is installed back of stepwell and a grab handle to assist passengers in entering at right side of stepwell.
MODESTY PANEL:
Pressed Steel covered with carpet, located directly ahead of first right hand seat.
GAS TANK:
40-gallon capacity capacity mounted directly to chassis with filler on right hand side of bus. Key-locking gas cap.
BATTERY COMPARTMENT:
Readily accessible in engine compartment
GLASS AND SASH:
Windshields are of 1/4'' Safety Plate mounted in rubber channels. Side windows are drop sash type, safety plate sheet mounted in steel frames with stops at intervals. Stationary glass at rear and rear side windows of safety sheet mounted in rubber channel. Driver's window is sliding type two-piece safety sheet mounted in felt channels.
LIGHTS:
Standard equipment includes: Interior lights mounted in header rail above windows. Automatically operated step light to illuminate entrance step when door is open. Legal clearance lights mounted two on front roof corners and two on rear roof corners. Two combination stop and tail lights mounted on rear end of bus and necessary reflectors. Two electric directional lights showing right and left turns mounted on front and rear of body, operated by driver. Engine compartment light. Road lights and blinker lights
WINDSHIELD WIPERS:
Two heavy duty, air operated, with emergency manual controls mounted on bottom of windshield. Individually controlled.
STOP SIGN:
14'' x 18'' reflectorized Scotchlite, manually operated by driver.
REAR VIEW MIRRORS:
Interior: Above windshield, 6'' x 16'', rubber-bound, adjustable. Exterior: 5'' x 10'' non-glare on left side. 4'' x 8'' non-glare on right side.
SUN GLARE SHIELD:
Fully adjustable, above windshield, in front of driver.
SAFETY DOOR HEADERS:
Leather-covered sponge rubber pad over door to prevent possible head injury.
DRIVER'S CONVIENIENCE COMPARTMENT:
Enclosed in left front panel with hinged door.
TOOL BOX:
Metal tool box located under seat near front.
VENTILATION:
A specially designed static exhaust ventilator is installed low pressure area of front roof.. Two power driven exhaust ventilators mounted in roof at rear of bus controlled by driver.
HEATER AND DEFROSTER:
A two-fan Evans underseat heater, located center of bus, draws fresh air through louvers in side panel and discharges heated air to front and rear. A two-fan Evans re-circulating heater is located in center front, discharging heated air down aisle and also in regulated quantities for defrosting and driver heat.
PAINT:
All parts are thoroughly cleaned and primed before assembly. Completed bodues are painted Federal School Bus Yellow and lettered black in accordance with State Regulations, including district name, number, and bus number. Interior finish harmonizes with upholstery. All painting is semi-baked in thermostatically controlled booths.
EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT:
Complete in accordance with State Regulationsa, including first aid kit, fire extinnguisher, flares, fog and road lamp, blinker lights.
WIRING:
Individually fused circuits enclosed in loom. Fuse and switch panel located left of driver with hinged door to fuse panel. Circuit-identifying fuse chart furnished in fuse compartment.
IDENTIFICATION:
Manufacturer's name plate located inside above right hand windshield noting body serial number and sales order number. Cast winged "Pacific" emblem on front of body under windshield. Other outside identifications will be mounted under "Pacific" emblem at option of purchaser.
