"Cyrus owned a country store and was murdered there in the store. I think they found the person who did it, and he was sentenced to prison. My mother was telling me last night that she was about 16-17 at the time and they heard about it on the party line. She and another girl ran and hid because they thought the same man might be after them. Pat doesn't know much about it because Lela Mae Luman Plunkett didn't talk about it that much.
My uncle, John Gordon Plunkett, married Lela Mae Luman, daughter of Cyrus B Luman and Martha Jane McKinney. My great-aunt Virginia Harriet Plunkett married James Levi Luman, son of Joseph Newton Joel Luman and Amanda Weatherford. My Aunt Lela, who went by Mae, didn't speak much about the Lumans, and didn't seem to know much about the family. My mother, who is 88, and Lela Mae grew up together in Arkansas and were very close even though they were sisters-in-law." -Michael Gibson, Apr 2000

So when it melted there was a ball of lead the size of an egg with a piece of rawhide attached to it. And that is what was used to beat Cyrus to death."
