Chapter 2: Character Creation
Before anything else, the clan name, Childer of Set must be clearly understood: A Brujah Scholar discovered traces of vampire-like Disciplines in some descriptions written in priestly papyri. So he assumed there were effectively Vampires in Egypt, and so, as Egypt was all but forbidden to all other Vampires, he decided they could only be Childer of Set. The only common thing uniting the Bloodlines of Ancient Egypt are their supposed divinity. Among them, one example could be considered as a Childer of Set because of common caracteristics, but was by Blood Childe of a Lasombra. Amon, despite his heritage, never aknowledged his Sire of his Clan. All others were indeed mortals embraced by Set, but only in part: These Founders, chosen because of the Divinity emanating from their aura, were given altered blood, mixed Vitae from Osiris and Set, and altered through the Magick of Life of Isis, and the Magick of Death of Nephtys. Thus, even these are not, strictly, Childer of Set, but form, instead, diverging Bloodlines.
Childer of Set, for the majority female Kindred, were Embraced from 3000 BC to 1000 BC. Their aim was to gouvern Egypt while Set was in Torpor, and to continue philosophical research that could lead to the state of Maat.
But apparently, no matter how beautiful the fruit was, it was already rotten from the inside. The information given there is of little use but historical curiosity. Most, if not all, the Childer of Set were destroyed, or followed Set into the Wyrm Caern that proved to be his final corruption, becoming the Followers of Set.
Still, for those playing an Egyptian Chronicle (like the Chronicle: Uræus, Gods of Egypt) can find useful information. Note that due to the natural blood link between Set and his Childer, he and his Followers had little difficulty hunting them down. No one, unless exception, survived the purge...
Description
Set, while a Third Generation, didn't gave his Childer what could be considered his prefered Disciplines. Set was a warrior, of course, but the unique way what would be called later, by mistake, his Childer, insured each would become a Founder of her own Bloodline, with two common Disciplines and one unique one.
The name Childer of Set was badly chosen, but was given by the other vampires, as they knew nothing of the Pact of Maat, the true Embrace ritual performed by the Antediluvian, nor the reasons behind the choice of this or this person. As stated by the Pact of Maat, he created Childer only by selecting persons with traces of godhood, and by giving them the Vitae of Gods, result of the mix of his own and Osiris', the power of which was augmented by magical rituals performed by no one else than Isis and Nephtys. This balanced Assembly of Gods would help him and Egypt reach the state which was called Maat: Truth and Justice.
So there isn't one type of Childer of Set, but six (by order
of Embrace). Another, Amon, was not (partial or total)
Progeny of Set, but was Embraced by Montu, also known as
Montano, Childe of Lasombra. Still, Amon's lack of concern
for his known Bloodline, as well as the fact he was a God,
make his presence here necessary
Even the Shapeshifters (the Bubastis, of the Bastet Tribe, decimated in the Garou Wars of purification; The Garous who would become the Silent Striders; the Sobeks of the Fayoum) were to participate to the building of Egypt.
But Egypt would finally crumble after the Embrace of Kemintiri and Nefertiti, who, while Embraced directly by Set (thus breaking the Pact of Maat). Each would follow her own destiny, but in truth, each would have her own purpose, as intrigued by the Han-Ouib-Apop, followers of the God Apep, also known as Apop, Apoph, or the greek Apophis, and soon after would intrigate to destroy the other Bloodlines, including the pure Wadjet, founder of the Ouro-Sen Bloodline, who, if the lore must be believed, knew about the Uræus, a mystical weapon able to banish Apep.
Nickname
None: No one in Egypt would name those powerful 4th and 5th Generation Kindred otherwise as ''Gods''. Still theses Childer of the Balance, or Childer of Maat would be wrongly called later the Childer of Set (even by those knowing about the Pact of Maat: After all, Set was an Antediluvian, and Osiris wasn't supposed to be. So they reason, the Vitae of Set must have prevailed!)
Haven
The Childer of Set found their lairs in great pyramids with maze-like internal structures, maze-like tombs or even Temples dedicated to them.
Background
Most were discovered in the Egyptian powerful Administration, and were chosen for their personnal power (being a Mage or a renowned warrior, for example), immunity to corruption, be it by money or pleasures (incorruptible judges, etc.) or for their scientific and philosophical research (most of them being priests).
Among them, were mortal chosen for one reason only: They had the gold and silver veins marking their aura like white lightning marking the night sky, sign of the influence of a God.
Character Creation
In those time, most were 5th or 6th Generation. The more powerful were direct Childer of Set. Use the Elysium Rules to create one.
Disciplines
Set didn't create his own Disciplines: His Childer and himself
worked hard to create what would become Clan Disciplines.
At least, the Disciplines of Presence and Obfuscate are
common Clan Discipline. The third Clan Discipline is in
truth the Bloodline Discipline.:
Weakness
Unlike the other Vampires, the Childer of Gods were created from highly magickal blood, be it because of its divine origin (Osiris and Set were gods, not mortals), or because of the Rituals performed by Isis and Nephtys to insure the divinity of the Founders of Bloodlines. Thus, a strange aura emanates from them. The Founders, or even those of divine origin can be recognized by the Gold and Silver Lightning-like marks on their aura.
This Aura, though, placed them beyond the other mortals and even the other supernatural creatures. The uneasiness produced by their eerie presence gave them a malus of -2 Dices to any Social roll not involving Leadership or Intimidation (or the like). The Childer of Set could use this Weakness at their advantage, as they had a +2 Dices Bonus to Leadership and Intimidation. These Bonus/Malus do not exist when used against people who has the same weakness (or the Flaw Eerie Presence).
Organisation
Like the other Supernatural Races of Egypt, the Childer of Set were Gods. Set had accepted to be recognized guilty of the murder of his own brother, Osiris. But he was also known to protect the Two Lands from the corruption: He was the one who fought Apep to protect Ra's course in the sky. But soon, the mortals meddled this with their own mythology, and some ''historical corrections'' by the Followers of Horus (who are known to have a very unriable --and very flexible-- memory) explaining some strange mythos (Set is Osiris' brother once, and the next, he is Horus'one).
They had no official hierarchy but each supernatural bloodline, with the Founders as their leaders. Set lies most of the time in torpor, so each supernatural specy works to its own ends. The Leaders of those groups often meet to discuss matters of importance.
After the Great Purge who had destroyed all the Childer of Set but the remaining Ouro-Sen who declared loyalty to Set and his new philosophy (probably inspired by the Wyrm, Apep), joining the Han-Ouib-Apop (or, more precisely, the Han-Ouip-Apop will take over the remnants of the Ouro-Sen Bloodline), after the invasion of Horus, and while Set was in Torpor, Nefertiti self-proclaimed herself Regent of the Two-Lands. But by then, the Childer of Set were no more, and the true power of the Followers of Set would be threatened, not by Horus, but by the other Kindred.
Strangely, the Children of Osiris found their ranks growing while the Great Purge. A few Childer of Set had been known to join the Children before, but nothing comparable with the increase due to the Great Purge.
Preferred Path
Humanity (No other Path was available by then).
Stereotypes
Baali: Corrupted slaves of Apep. Our sworn enemies.
The Childer of Set must be hiding a great crime behind their contemptuous appearance: They will join us in the Darkness
Cappadocian: We had common interests, but their Founder had tried to take over Egypt more than once for his unrespectful research on the Land of the Dead. So they are unwelcome. Still, their Faith is so strange...
Their land is so full of mystery. Set prevented us to get the precious knowledge it contained. Perhaps we will come into terms. Then, nothing will prevent us from learning about Death.
Followers of Set: (After the start of the Purge) I don't understand their aggressivity. Aren't we all Followers of Set (naive voice)???
We are the Childer of Set. The others were bastards who betrayed Set by not following him into the Darkness...
Lasombra: Montou proved to be a loyal friend. Amon seems to be as bit as loyal as his Sire. They will help us maintain Maat on the Two-Lands.
While they work at finding their precious Maat, we build Egypt into a great nation. Fools... But Amon's last negative answer to my summon unsettle me...
Ravnos: They are thieves without any respect for other's philosophy.
They take themselves too much serviously. One night, we will take their Blood
Salubri: They share a vision which is similar to Maat. But they lack discipline, and try to impress us with they walking in the edge of the Beast's range. The Beast is to be suppressed, not understood and pitied!
How naive and brutal they are. They don't understand the Beast feeds from their violent tries to suppress it. Their Discipline is surprising, but their hold into their humanity is artificial at best, and it will one day betray them...
Ventrue: Tiamat and her Brood are a dangerous lot. Be wary of them...
Set, his brood and his ''Two-Lands'' have been a thorn at our side for too long. They must be destroyed, and the Two-Lands submitted!
Lupines: Loyal friends. The Sons of Anubis share our vision of Maat.
We have made what no other Garou would have. We gave our trust to potential Followers of Apep. Still, we couldn't ignore their thirst for purity: They need our guidance in Life and in Death.
Bastet: While they love pleasure, they work with us to reach Maat.
Horus' undying army are not the pure they would us to believe. At least, the Childer of Set try to better themselves through meditation. I couldn't do it... So boring...
Mummies: They are our Allies. But we wonder at their true aim: Horus seems to take too much interest in the temporal power of Egypt. He is at the edge of breaching the Pact of Maat...
For now, our numbers are still low, and they are too much powerful. One night, they will show their true corruption, and my Father will open his eyes. Then, we will remove their blight from Egypt's face, and show all the world Egypt is the land of Osiris.
Mages: The Followers of Aton nearly destroyed our dream while trying to reach their egoistical goal. These Mortals should be closely monitored.
They believe themselves Gods and Godesses. They are nothing but monsters. We hold the Holy Power given by God, and through it, we will guide the mortals...
