| The Special Victims Unit is an elite squad that investigates heinous sex crimes as part of the NYPD. They deal with cases of pedophilia, molestation, rape, and child abuse. Dick Wolf created the "Law and Order" franchise in the late 80s starting first with "Law and Order". A decade later "SVU" was born. With Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay in the staring roles, the series quickly dashed its way through the top 40 ratings and became a favorite in the coveted 18-49 age group. From the first season until the now hugely popular sixth season "SVU"'s ratings have skyrocketed. Critics are calling this season "the best and most suspenseful season yet!" Hats off to them!
