Solving Equations
Using algebra to solve equations!
Having an '=' equal sign means that something is equal to something.  This is why when things are equal they are called equations!

You can think of a balanced scale.

To solve 2x+7=17 you need to get x on its own on one side of the scale and the numbers on another side of the scale.

First subtract 7 from both sides so we can get rid of the 7 on the left side so it leave us with 2x!
2x+7-7   =      17-7

2x      =     10
The now you know what is 2x equal to! 2x equals 10! So to find what is x you need to divide 10 by 2!
2x  = 10

x       = 10/2

x   = 5
So x equals 5. x=5 is a solution of 2x+7=17!
