Sanlakas urges court employees to pursue an independent fight on JDF
The party-list group Sanlakas today urged court employees nationwide to pursue the fight for their rightful claim to the Judicial Development Fund (JDF) in the streets and other venues outside the impeachment process. The alleged misuse of the JDF is the core issue in the impeachment complaint filed in Congress against Chief Justice Hilario Davide. According to Sanlakas President Wilson Fortaleza, while there is a chance for the impeachment process to check the irregularities in the disbursement of the JDF, there is no assurance, however, that this process would end up to the best of their interests. "The court employees are in the best position to pursue this fight independently, specially now that the impeachment process has been reduced to a bitter infighting between factions of the elite and the major branches of government," Fortaleza said. Fortaleza stressed that: "Without the court employees leading their independent struggle on the issue, their legitimate claim to the JDF will be obscured if not completely eclipsed by the far bigger and rousing issues of the constitutional crisis and factional infighting between the elite." Fortaleza said court employees should not allow themselves to be divided nor alienated over the issue of the impeachment but rather remain united in pursuit of their rightful claim to the JDF independent of the elites' initiatives. Fortaleza said his group will also be pursuing an independent track in the face of the prevailing political crisis that is borne out of the impeachment case filed against Chief Justice Hilario Davide by Congress.
