Aragorn Also known as Strider, he is a friend of Gandalf's, he is Aragorn, son of Arathorn. He is a Ranger, and he watches over the borders of the Shire. He is descended through many fathers from Isildur Elendil's son of Minas Ithil. He is the chief of the Dúnedain in the North. He carries the sword of Elendil, which is broken, but he hopes to have it reforged. 

Arwen Evenstar The daughter of Elrond, Lady of Imladris and of Lórien. 

Bilbo Baggins In 1341 Bilbo, the Hobbit undertook a great adventure with Gandalf far in the East and retrieved a great treasure from the dragon Smaug. Along the way on his journey he obtained the ring from Gollum. Now, years later he is celebrating his eleventy-first (111) birthday in a great party in the Shire.

Frodo Baggins A Hobbit adopted by Bilbo as his heir and lives at Bag End with Bilbo. After Bilbo's 111th birthday Bilbo left the Shire and Frodo inherited his estate as well as the ring.

Boromir A man from Minas Tirith in the South. He is High Warden of the White Tower and the son of Lord Denethor. 

Meriadoc (Merry) Brandybuck A friend of Frodo's from the Shire.
